Went at night to nurse my legs after a long day of walking for late dinner. The reviews seem to be mixed so we must have went on a good night ☺️
I ordered the tonkatsu as a second dinner and it was honestly one of the best meals I had in Tokyo (I found most of the food here soulless and commercial). The tonkatsu was standard, yet could rival other chain specialty store like Ma Maison. Served with cabbage dressed in lemon juice, mayo, tonkatsu sauce, mustard, rice, burdock side dish, miso soup and steamed egg. The pork is thick, meaty and juicy, with a good strip of fat. Breading is light and crispy but not greasy and stays that way throughout the meal, complimenting the savoury taste of the pork. For the rice, you can choose between white, flavoured or grain rice. Miso soup is the kind with a deeper more complex taste, loved it. Meanwhile, the egg custard had fresh ingredients including a small shrimp, ginkgo, mushroom and fishcake.
My dad ordered the grilled pork set that is served in tangy sauce with the same sides as above. While on its own, it can be too salty and flavourful, the pork tastes just nice with rice. It is firm yet not dry or chewy. Dressed cabbage cuts through the heaviness. It is great with a beer.
Staff will provide you with a warm hand towel once seated, which is a nice touch as most places provide you with regular wet wipes. We seated by the window at night and enjoyed the great view of shinjuku.
Come try this place...
Read moreMe and my wife went there because we were attracted by the picture of tonkatsu (fried pork) and also because we thought the price was reasonable for a dinner in central Tokyo. We waited to be sat around 20 min and once we were ready to order the waitress told us they didn't have the tonkatsu. They could have put a simple piece of paper on the picture saying "sold out". We had to order something else, my wife had noodles with sushi which was edible but it had a weird taste (my wife is Japanese and she knows the Japanese cuisine), I had chicken with rice which was ok but out Mizo soup was terrible as well as the egg pudding. On the other hand the dessert was really nice instead, the view is incredible but in here you don't get what you paid for. We won't come back. I was really tempted to leave once they said they had no tonkatsu but it meant to queue for maybe other 20 minutes somewhere else, maybe we should have done it but we...
Read moreThe restaurant was not busy and we were not even offered water, even after I ordered the food. A table that came in later than us got water before us, I had to ask the waiter for water. We ordered the chicken rice bowl and wagyu beef rice box. The beef was unseasoned and dry and either overcooked or not wagyu, with no sauce. The chicken egg rice bowl was not seasoned at all, and also had no sauce. We asked the waitress for soy sauce and then she came with the soy sauce with her finger in the soy sauce bowl!!! We also ordered a salad on the side that never came. I haven’t ate a meal in 8 hrs, I was famished and still thought this food was terrible. Please avoid this restaurant...
