Rare Cheesecake & Ganache ð§ð°ð« at Sirotae
One of the oldest patisseries in Akasaka, Sirotae was established in 1976 and is famous for its rare cheesecake. ð
Visiting around 5pm on a weekday I was disappointed to see a long queue of about 12 people snaking out of the shop, but this was only for takeout. So I was able to enter immediately and get a seat to eat-in. ð
The look and feel of the cafe is definitely quite traditional and the interior looks like it is from from several decades ago. Upstairs I counted around 20 seats and after ordering, the staff appeared 2-3 minutes later with my cake & coffee. âïž
The rare cheesecake has a look of simplicity but the taste is quite complex - the cheese cream is thick with a hint of acidity, while it has a certain smoothness too, giving it a rich texture and finish. Pairs extremely well with black coffee. ð
Next came the ganache, a small round cake decorated with a single pistachio. The chocolate powder coating is bittersweet, and inside are layers of chocolate cream with a thin chocolate sponge, and a chocolate ganache at the top. ð«
In the middle is a brandy-soaked cherry, so might not be suitable for those who don't like alcohol in their desserts. Personally I thought it was a classic but tasty treat. ððŒ
While the products are small in size, they are also reasonably priced, so perfect for trying several varieties all at once! ð
If you are in the Akasaka area, be sure to drop in and check out Sirotae. ððŒ

Read more[Little to no English] This store has wonderful history and a very cute, European design. Everything highlights the craft of pastries! The workers are very knowledgeable and quick to work; usually there is a line for take-out. I had the cream puffs and a slice of cheesecake. The prices were nominally higher than other pastry shops in the area. Price was certainly high for the size of pastry. The cream puffs are impressively STUFFED! Theyâre quite decadent and the flavor of the crÚme is strong, much stronger than most. It was heavy which I usually would like but made the cream puff altogether a bit much. The cheesecake in comparison was so light, it felt and tasted like not much at all. The level of craftsmanship is there, but it may not be a store I fight to...
Read moreThe worst SAVAGE customer service ever! These staffs said that:â weâll give you a piece of paper to cover that cheesecake for takeout!â I got so shocked by their Savage Behaviors! I rejected them n mentioned:âI need a small boxâ! She repeat herself again by wrapping that cake with paperð€£ Iâm wonder where should I put âthat special paper wrapped cheese cakeâ, apparently not in my handbag! I pointed out a small cakebox n confirmed it again: I need that! Meanwhile, CASH ONLY in that cake store, central Tokyo! Actually I did order a piece of cheesecake and coffee for sitting-in, but they stop servicing customers on 5:30pm, takeout only! I came on 5:25pm, they close on 7:30pm according to Google! Itâs recommended by a local tour guide, eventually a tourist...
