I brought my friend in for her birthday celebration. I was absolutely floored by the food, drinks and the service provided. No detail was missed and both the front of house and back of house have made everything so delightful. Chef Nezasa’s care on the menu is recognized by every bite. Each dish looked like a piece of art, I couldn’t eat because of how they were beautifully plated. We savoured everything to the fullest. My friend wanted to try a cocktail, however they didn’t have it listed on their menu but the staff that took care of us (I apologize, I have forgotten his name) offered us the drink menu from Oak Door. I was blown by the thought. ALSO! I must add that he offered to commemorate the evening with a printed photo in a card! He went above and beyond. And to top the night off, Mr. Saito the general manager made sure to have a cake with candles brought in for desserts. I can’t thank you enough for the lovely dinner. The care shows that they made sure to make the evening memorable. Definitely a place I recommend for celebrations. Thank you...
Read moreI visited on July 19, 2025. On that day, I was in the mood for eel, so without hesitation, I made a reservation at Shunbou. I chose the "Lake Biwa Eel Course" and the "Crispy Fried Small Fish Salad."
The eel had tender skin and plump, juicy meat—it was absolutely delicious. The sauce was rich and slightly sweet, perfectly complementing the flavor of the eel. This dish is especially recommended during the hot summer season.
For dessert, I added the Japanese sweets of the day—taiyaki and matcha. The taiyaki was adorably small and very tasty, just the right portion as I was already quite full.
In addition to the excellent food, they also offered a wide variety of sake. I particularly enjoyed trying the different types of junmai sake.
The staff were all very hospitable, and I had a lovely, enjoyable time. I think it’s the perfect place to spend time with someone special or...
Read moreHad dinner here once a few years ago and liked it. Had been looking forward to our Xmas Eve dinner here for months this time. Unfortunately, we were somewhat disappointed. As soon as we walked in, the whole restaurant was filled with grilled fish and other cooking smell which didn't match with the nice decor and ruined the ambience completely. The smell continued almost until we finished our meal 1.5 hours later. Ordered the Yen $16,000 dinner set per person. With the exception of the crab, the other items, though nicely displayed, were not very impressive and not of high cost items. Most disappointing was the last rice dish with ohmi beef which came in a sizable pot for 2. There were not much beef, very thinly sliced. With this kind of pricing, the CP was very low! We have been Hyatt members for quite a few years and hope this was...
