St.Marc Cafe — Restaurant in Tokyo

Disclaimer: review from the business, entrepreneur perspective. Tables small but can be used for your laptop.

Wifi: works fine, disconnect after some time. Not sure how long, maybe 1 hour.

People: Many elders meeting or alone. It makes the place even nicer. I like elders a lot. I feel for their solitude, I can guess their nostalgia, I appreciate their good manners, and the hidden story they bear.

Other kind of people of course but I feel this place has more elders than other places I have worked in.

As usual: I dislike co-working places to work in even for my team. I prefer touring Tokyo from one coffee shop to another like a nomad in a country that does really not favor nomadism.

I already reviewed another similar place. Same franchise, but in Ueno. I refer it as a money making place showing the smallest tables I've seen so far to allow more people in.

This place is serving more or less the same products but with way more space and good chairs.

Good desserts but too sugar and calories rich. That does not contribute to a better health but on occasion it's acceptable.

Musical ambiance : depending where you are in the shop, you could hear typical shopping mall cheesy music or the shop jazz music or a mix of all.

Things I love about the place: it's surrounded by restaurants, it's in a basement B1 of the mall, it feels more comfy than other places. You can work with your laptop without too much intimacy but good enough to work well. It closes at 10:30 pm. It's 50 meters or so from the Machiya station. The coffee is good. People are nice.

Things you must know: no AC/DC plug. So charge your laptop before coming. There is a KFC on the same floor in front of the coffee shop so you will smell the greasy cooking if you are close...

私は61歳のメガネ親父です。 この日は足立図書館で本を借りたあと、「どうせなら落ち着いて読もう」と思い、町屋駅ビルの飲食店街へ足を運びました。

マックとドトールが目に入りましたが、店の外まで聞こえる賑やかな声に、静けさを求める中年の心は少し後ずさり。

そんな時、ふと目に入ったのが サンマルクカフェ。 「ここなら落ち着けそうだ」とメガネをクイッと上げて、入店。

アメリカンコーヒーとコーヒーゼリーを注文しました。

このコーヒーゼリーがまた、甘すぎず苦すぎず、大人の味わい。 スプーンを入れた瞬間、図書館で借りた本の世界と、ほろ苦いゼリーの世界が静かに重なっていくような気がしました。

店内は広々としていて、客層も穏やか。

それぞれが静かに自分の時間を過ごしている、そんな空気が心地よくて、ページをめくる手もゆっくりになります。

「ここなら、また本を片手にのんびりできそうだな」と思いながら、残り少ないコーヒーをすすりました。

外に出ると、街の喧騒が少し遠くに感じられる。 そんな午後のひとときでした。 ⭐️5
