Overall, absolutely wonderful experience, and tasty food. My husband and I went to Nihonbashi today (Saturday) for lunch at the famous Jiro Sushi (Nihombashi location, not the 3 star Michelin, and exorbitantly expensive one in Ginza where Mr. Barak Obama and PM Abe ate dinner, which starts at $300 PP) at 12.30PM and only two people were ahead of us, waiting to be seated. To my surprise, we had may be a 10 minute wait. We both had Yen3000 dishes (I had the rice bowl with sashimi in it and he had a sushi set of 12 pieces, both were quite filling) plus unlimited free hot Ocha (Japanese green tea). This was the best $30 PP lunch we have had in a long time in Japan. The fish was so very fresh and the rice was tasty, I gobbled every single grain. Please remember that it is a hard place to find on the 7th floor of Takashimaya, the flagship store of an upscale retail chain in Japan. We asked an employee as soon as we got out of the elevator, and she kindly walked us there (a typical Japanese thing to do). It is near the kimono area, I enjoyed looking at $10,000+ wedding kimonos after lunch. If you have time while visiting Tokyo and like sushi, please consider eating here, even if it is slightly expensive than other sushi places, after all, this is in Nihonbashi--very expensive real estate area in Tokyo. Also, note that this is not a "let's have a relaxing lunch" type of place, it is a very small "room", we got lucky and got sat at the counter of about 7 people and could watch the sushi chef craft our lunch. Most eat quickly and leave. Looks to be a non-smoking room. Glad we could eat at the Sukiyabashi Jiro sushi and not lose our shirt to pay for it. Four stars instead of five because of the small room...
Read moreFound this “secret” location by accident and went to check it out. While we haven’t had the original location in Ginza, this was still a transformative experience for us.
They have set options for lunch at very reasonable prices, but must get the omakase for the full experience. It was only about $100usd per person and worth every penny.
Every piece was perfect and divine. The best sushi.
It was intimidating at first, as we are from New York and know only a handful of words in Japanese. No English menu but just get omakase, easy enough! No reservations needed, seated easily. Super friendly people once we got settled down. Very approachable way to...
Read moreI saw a sign in the Takashimaya that said Sukibayashi Jiro and had to take a look. I had just eaten so I came back the next day at 11am and was seated right away. They had great set options for about 4000-6000 yen but I had to try the omakase at 13,000.
As expected the sushi was great and they give you a choice of any additional piece at the end and I chose the uni. Definitely...
