Sooo I'll preface this saying I'm lactose intolerant and like an idiot I looked up what a carbonera was after I ordered it.
When entering i look japanese so they first did everything in japanese until i asked for the english menu. They gave me some water real quick and then i ordered through their QR code at the table.
I followed some other reviews and ordered the udon carbonera. But i enjoy eating so i also got the wagyu steak (translated as black steak) and some fried clams.
The food came out pretty quickly, first the carbonera. The carbonera was not bad, but as I said earlier I'm lactose intolerant and not the most fond of cheese dishes. I finished the noodles and most of the toppings but didn't drink the broth. Despite all that I'd say udon carbonera is a 4/5, if it was more my style could definitely b a 5/5.
While working through the udon i recieved the wagyu and clams which were pretty good. There were 3... accompaniments I'll call them (not sure what you call them) that came with the wagyu along with some veggies on the plate. The clams had some veggies on the plate and I just used the soy sauce that came with the wagyu.
The wagyu was EXTREMELY soft and very good and clans were very good as well. They were soft and had a good amount of flavor. I'd say wagyu was 5/5 and clams were 4.5/5
I wrote most of this review on the nice heated seat of the toilet (the bidet controls are on the right btw).
The wagyu was 6k yen (40 usd) and clams were 750 yen (5 USD) and the udon was 1300 yen (~9 usd). All in all I'd say very worth and I'd like to try their more traditional...
Read more!!! Dishonest practises towards foreigners !!!
Food ok, but be ready to pay extra charge just for being a foreigner. Not only do they add a “service charge” that makes no sense because every meal is “tax included”, but they also make you pay an extra 500 yen a person just for seating ! You can see the picture. It’s written nowhere so you discover it when you get the bill, and surprisingly it was also not present on other bills ( I took a peek at some bills left at the counter when leaving, and there was no “service charge” or table charge whatsoever ). You can also see that this “table charge” is the only thing written in English. I managed to get the service charge off my bill ( very easily, proof that it stood for nothing but extortion) but I still had to pay the table charge. If I had said nothing, I would have ended paying almost 4000 yen instead of 2380 ! Clearly a biased policy.
So even if the food is ok, I advise you not to come. You can find way better without having to pay just for being a tourist, and having a good experience turning into a bad one. It’s a such a shame for a restaurant, and so unjapanese. Even in very tourist areas like Shintoku, you can find very nice people that make you feel welcome. So you should definitely look elsewhere if...
Read moreI ordered the Weish onion, Chinese chive, sesame, and kurobuta in white soup udon, and it was absolutely delicious. The flavors were well-balanced, and the white soup was rich and comforting. The ingredients were fresh, and the sesame added a nice touch of nuttiness.
The service was excellent! The staff were attentive and friendly, ensuring that everything was perfect during my visit.
The restaurant was so clean, and the ambiance was pleasant and welcoming. It was a comfortable...
