This was by far the worst meal I had in Japan due to the service at this establishment.
I came here for dinner with a large group of friends, with a reservation. Our group was divided between the two chefs who were working that night. Half of us with one chef, half of us with the other chef.
The chef that was overseeing my side would complete an entire order first for each person (including any additional pieces that were added on after) before moving on to the next person. Sitting in the last seat of his section, he didn't prepare my meal until about 35-40 minutes into us arriving at the restaurant.
My friends sitting to the right of me who were with the other chef were all able to eat at the same time as their chef phased out the pieces for each person instead of making each person wait.
By the time my pieces were prepared, all of my friends had finished eating already and I was forced to rush as I was the last person that was served, so they had to wait for me to eat. Absolutely ridiculous. I am sure that the chef was aware of the situation but just didn't care as he just kept laughing while saying "gomen". Also very unhygienic as he was coughing while preparing the sushi.
The preparation timing would make sense if my friend who was sitting at the far end side of the other sushi chef ate at the same time that I did, but he received parts of his order around the same time as my other friends.
I think there needs to be more situational awareness from the chefs. If a group of people come in together, one person shouldn't be made to wait to eat until everyone in the group has already...
Read moreIt is my last day in tomorrow, having been to my favourite kaitenzushi bar the last two days, I wanted to go somewhere that offered a bit more than what you can usually get. Bar Nigirite was that place and they had a huge variety of fish, some I hadn't even heard of. I selected 6 types (be aware the pricing shown on the menu is per piece not per plate of 2 pieces), intentionally selecting fish that is not available elsewhere. There is no chance these fish or cuts would be available back in London. They were all excellent, and what I liked was that they made each piece of the pair different depending on what fish you selected. The most usual way they served it was one seasoned with fine sea salt and the other is brushed with soy sauce. You won't find any soy sauce bottles for you too do as each piece is seasoned perfectly by the chef. It's a very popular spot with the locals and there's only 12 covers. I'd suggest going outside the peak times like I did (4:30pm) or be ready to wait in line. As each piece of nigiri is prepared when it is ordered, expect a long wait during peak lunch and dinner times. Though not cheap, it's a great experience to have some very rare and often unavailable types of fish. My favourite was the Kama Toro (fatty tuna from the collar bone) especially the seared one, it tasted...
Read moreThis is a local typical sushi restaurant which specializes in preparing a variety of seasonal fish. Aged fish. Nothing like chain sushi restaurants. Very small cover. Last minute walk in is not possible.
We order 12 pieces of fish, which were all fresh/stunning to buds. If you are staying in shinjuku which is far from Tsukiji, you don't need to visit Tsukiji as you will have better fish here. A restaurant definitely is recommended for fish lovers. Prices are highly competitive too.
One thing could make the sushi to next level. The vinegar rice. Better to have red vinegar rice. But that is absolutely for foodies or tasters.
We had visited many Tablog 100 restaurants. Comparatively, foods here may not be the most luxurious types or the presentation of the foods may not be most appealing like art. But taste is extremely appealing.
This was our second visit. Missed once in our first day of tryp because the restaurant was closed. Last minute walk in. Waiting for the restaurant to open at 1130am. Luckily we were allowed to use the short windows of time before next appointment. Wanted to have more but no time left.
We will...
