Read moreKura may not be my favourite sushi in Tokyo, but it was one of my most fond experience (so far, on day four of ten) 🤗
We arrived at 11am and already there was a queue of 10-15 people in front of us, probably hungry as we were due to a late night before and skipping breakfast.
Our last meal was Sushiro so a comparison between two of the largest chain of kaitenzushi in Japan is meaningful if not mandatory 😂
Long story short, I much prefer Kura over Sushiro 🥰 The waa actual sushi on plates coming around on a conveyor belt (unlike Sushiro whereby everything was ordered via their in-house app), no time limit for dining in (Sushiro enforces a 60 minutes window), the pickled ginger taste better (less syrupy and thinly sliced), the staff left us alone but were attentive when requested, the variety is bewildering and for every five plates, you get to play Gashapon (ガシャポン or capsule toy vending machine) 😂🥚
To be fair and frank however, Sushiro serves up crispier and airier battered tempura; and their variety is more creative (think salmon mozzarella basil sushi 🧐🤤).
Our only disappointment with Kura was the system had an error whereby we did not receive one game / go at Gachapon 🥺😭 Forgive us we love and collect Gachapon 😂 Overall, not a deal breaker 大丈夫! If you're a tourist with limited time / meals quota in Japan,...
Read moreOur meal was around ¥2,000 per person (3 people) and included 20 dishes from the entire menu. As the saying goes, you get what you pay for. The food was decent, suitable for a quick grab-and-go or for a few rounds with a group of friends. The reality is … it is a sushi belt restaurant with machine-automated checkpoints. Do not expect the most memorable experience or service. That is not part of the deal.
Very clever upselling strategy with their gashapon! For every five plates ordered, you have a chance to win a toy. The Asian market will never say no to this because they believe that if they have 12 or 13 dishes, they are only a few away from winning a prize. It's funny—almost like encouraging gambling haha.
I also ordered two items from the Pokémon collaboration! Personally, I always avoid colors that are "too fake" for food that weird me out or have a high chance of being a regret. That's how I felt about the yellow-pink Swiss roll. But I fell for Sakebushippo's Shrimp Tempura Crepe Temaki and Tetsunobujin's Peach Melon Soda 🫣 It wasn't bad! 🫠 Only comment for the temaki … stale sushi rice.
If you don’t have a sweet drinks, don’t get the Melon Soda.
Fast and friendly checkout 👍🏻👍🏻
