-March, 2025 I found Sushi-Dokoro Okame as I was browsing Toyosu market. I enjoyed my experience so much, that I returned 3 more times during my time in Tokyo, usually very early in the morning. It is in the management facilities building 3 - as you exit the train, this will be on the left side while the outdoor/indoor retail market is on the right side.
I had the 3200¥ ($21 USD) special my first visit which consisted of 10 pieces of nigiri and 3 pieces of roll… plus a very nice miso soup. I thought it was very good!
But then the next time I had the “carefully selected special” for 4400¥ ($29 USD) which consisted of 10 pieces of premium nigiri (such as fatty tuna), tamago, 3 piece roll, and 2 more nigiri of my choice. A delicious miso soup accompanied the meal as well.
The sushi for my first "carefully selected special" included: *medium fatty tuna *sea bream *horse mackerel *ark-shell clam *alfonsino *fatty tuna *sea urchin *ikura *ice fish
I selected fatty tuna and Japanese eel as my 2 personal selections.
The service was outstanding each time, and the expert sushi chefs described each piece being served. I was seated immediately on 3 of the visits, and I only waited 10 minutes on one of the visits. The restaurant was clean and tea or water was refilled upon request. Payment was quick and easy via credit card or cash.
It was also fun to visit with other guests during each of my visits. Of course, we all immensely enjoyed our sushi.
I highly recommend Sushi-Dokoro Okame among the many great...
Read moreTucked inside the same complex as where the famous tuna auction happens is an alley of sushiyas all serving sushi platters to cater to visitors. Needless to say, their clientele is mostly made up of visitors to the fish market & auction, i.e., foreigners. Despite being located next to the fish market, I felt like the sushi platter (3800 yen) was a little underwhelming. Although the spread seemed decent and pretty bang-for-buck upon first look, the quality of the individual seafood, i.e., uni, tuna (ikr), and eel, was subpar. The rice lacked temperature control. This makes me wonder if my first point on their clientele being foreigners has made them compromise on quality. But of course, one cannot expect fine-dining standard here, since afterall it is meant as a quick and easy sushi lunch. Also, prices here are rather affordable compared to what you can get elsewhere-an important consideration when choosing...
