This is just the most wonderful restaurant, with both incredible food and the kindest and warmest hospitality I’ve ever encountered in Japan.

The sushi courses include classics but also many interesting and creative courses, like fried fish skin wrapped in sashimi for an amazing crunch, or a radish soup made with eel, delightfully revealed inside a ceramic pot. Each of the nigiri courses were spot-on in terms of texture (the vegetable-like crunch of the cuttlefish; the extreme melt of the tuna-cheek otoro) and flavour (supremely meaty and umami shrimp; splendidly acidic mackerel). There were more than 20 excellent and sizeable courses, representing excellent value.

All the courses are served on beautiful ceramics - indeed, the restaurant has a theme of colourful tableware with intricate patterns, which adds to its uniqueness.

As noted above, the chef and his wife could not be friendlier or more helpful, explaining the courses (sometimes using a translation app for more complex English sentences) and generally making sure everyone was relaxed and catered-for. The feel is very much that you’ve been invited round for dinner at your friends’ house - it’s just that one of your friends happens to be a brilliant sushi chef. I strongly recommend booking this fantastic restaurant for anyone who happens to have an evening in Tokyo.

BTW, since the name on Google Maps is spelled only in Japanese, the restaurant’s name is Sushi Yoshino (not to be confused with Sushi Yoshino Honten, which is a stand-up sushi bar elsewhere in Tokyo). Bookings can be made (all in English) on...

Best introduction to Japanese cuisine and hospitality! We had a wonderful experience at Sushi Yoshino! The chef and host really took care of us! We felt like we had been welcomed into their home. Every dish was created with care and the chef made sure through Google translate that we understood what we were eating, where it was sourced and how it was being prepared. The hostess was amazing and made us feel right at home! If we ever get to Tokyo again, we will...

I wish I could finish all but unfortunately, I was full. I am a person who can feel fishy a lot especially on cloudy or rainy day like the day I’ve been there so I left an oyster he gave me. Except these kinds of personal situation, I enjoyed his professional sushi and warm hearted hospitality. He gave me a bento made of bamboo filled with sushi so that I can finish last pieces at hotel. If you come here, you can feel his passion and genuine care...
