TANTRA TOKYO — Restaurant in Tokyo

My girlfriend and I had an incredible time here the other night. I have worked security in a number of high profile strip bars and gentlemans clubs in the USA (currently employed at Club Sinrock awarded 'best club of the year and west coast' 2017 and I personally was nominated as 'Portland's nicest bouncer' in 2017)...so let's just say I'm extremely qualified when it comes to giving this review.

Tantra basically exceeded all my expectations, nothing but incredible service from all the staff the moment we walked in. The managers and wait staff were all extremely accommodating. Laurence and Sandra both took time to come over and talk to us several times to make sure everything was going well and to answer any questions we had. The food was also excellent, I had a pasta dish and was surprised with how good it was.

The dancers were great and attentive to the customers. I also noticed the club had alot of girls on the floor at all times. Customers can also photograph certain performances which was a first for me, I have never heard of any strip bar or gentlemans club allowing this. I was extremely impressed with the cabaret style performances that were very well choreographed. Also as somebody who has literally seen thousands of girls dance over the years I was seriously impressed with the two girls who did the partnered pole dancing routines (the 2 girls pictured in the photo). Believe me when I say the stuff those two were doing wasn't easy at all, it was some very high level pole dancing. After watching them I was not surprised to learn that multiple dancers from the club compete and place in pole dancing competitions at an international level.

Do I really need to say anything else? If you want to go out in Roppongi but aren't sure what to do its simple: Don't waste your time or money at the other sketchy and sleazy clubs that surround this gem, just go to...

Went to Tantra for the first time a couple days ago and I’m sure it won’t be the last. The staff was friendly and the girls managed to provide for a great show. I had a dinner reservation, providing me with 2 meals. In my case a salad and a pizza. While the food was of good quality, I do have a slight issue with the timing of delivery. (More on that later)

I thought there was just going to be one long show but I was wrong, instead they have one unique smaller show every hour. Every hour is split up in 3 parts:

-Main shows, they’re great and lots of fun. No complaints. There are 4 every night, all of them unique.

-Gogo time, soon after the main show a bunch of girls will be dancing through the club, going up to the guests. Simple but fun, again, no complaints.

-Downtime, between shows there will be a moment of rest where a couple girls will get up on stage and do some pole dancing. While most of the girls where a lot of fun, there where 1 or 2 of them that clearly weren’t too enthusiastic about being there😅. Didn’t ruin the overall vibe though.

The overall schedule is really strong and I wouldn’t change it. Though, as I said earlier, there was a problem with food delivery. Well I got my pizza right before one of the main shows. Since I wanted to pay attention to the show I couldn’t be chowing down the whole time. After the show my pizza got cold and so I got it reheated. When I got the reheated pizza, gogo time started. In the end I only ate a couple slices of warm pizza during the show. I wish that food was delivered right after Gogo time, so that I could eat without too much distraction.

But that’s really my only problem with my evening. I actually extended my stay by an hour so I could see another show (I saw 3/4 shows), so that shows I had a good time. I’ll definitely be going back...

So here’s the thing. You read the overwhelmingly positive Google reviews for Tantra, see it recommended by Timeout, walk down the stairs to the club and view the pictures that prove Avril Lavigne, the prince of Monaco, and David Lee Roth have all been to this club—and you assume it’s going to be a classy and enjoyable evening.

And in fairness, the service is excellent. No sooner do you finish one bowl of snacks than another arrives. Wanna know where the bathroom is? One of the gentlemen working there will start walking you there before the question is out of your mouth. And in that bathroom you’ll find all the Listerine you could ever need.

But what you quickly realize is that this is mostly a forum where men bring escorts on dates/meet escorts. No disrespect intended. Just didn’t seem like the show was the main attraction. The performance lasted about fifteen minutes and there was no second act. For the price, the whole thing makes no sense.

We did go during Golden Week, so it’s possible that usually there is more to this place than five women—one of them in heels four sizes too big for her—performing a single very short routine.
