Tokyo Design Enthusiast's Must-Visit List: Check Out These Mind-Blowing Exhibits!
Michael RobertsMichael Roberts
I'll see you at the HUB. The Design Hub of course! I've been here a lot, because it is great and freeeeeeee. I usually take the Chiyoda line to the National Art Center and run around in there before heading out to the Canon photo gallery and other fun stops around Tokyo Midtown. To get to Design Hub I walk into the big scary-looking business building and hang a left over to the futuristic elevators that take me up to the 5th floor. Easy peasy. I think there was a school group trip or something when last I visited, so there were more HUMANS than I was used to seeing here. There's almost always very very few people, so you can take your time and read everything. It is usually Japanese writing though, so bring your phone. There also seem to be periodic workshops or seminars of some sort in the big glass rooms, and there's a really odd shaped couch at the end of the hallway. You'll know it when you see it. There's also a ton of free flyers and pamphlets for future design-related events! And the exhibits themselves are always really inspiring. Heck yes I will visit again. I will visit always! Come to think of it, I don't think I've ever seen actual staff here, but I trust that they are nearby and watching. Aaaaalways watchinnnng.

During my visit in Tokyo they had this great exhibition honoring some of the most famous Italian designer of the beginning of the previous century and how they help Japanese thinker to start designing. Great exhibition. Totally worth a visit.
