Titchai is my absolute favorite restaurant in Tokyo. Nestled in a quiet street in the otherwise busy neighborhood of Shimokitazawa, Titchai is an extremely cozy, albeit small, shop run by one amazing individual, Captain Miyuki! She cooks all dishes by herself most nights and still keeps the atmosphere cozy and homey for all customers. Even when my six friends and I took over her store for 5 hours, she still tended to her other customers. Miyuki loves when her guitar is played in her restaurant, which my friends and I did, and we sang songs together while enjoying absolutely delicious Thai food. Even when two of our party had peanut allergies, Miyuki was able to make all of the food safe for them, even with the heavy prevalence of peanuts in Thai cuisine. Spent the day in Shimokitazawa and we saw a little sign for this place advertising vegan food so of course we went to check it out. Turned out to be one of my favourite eating experiences in Japan. The staff were so friendly and the interior was beautiful and cosy. The day we went was the middle of winter so it was very cold outside and we were able to warm up with the table heaters. My vegetarian friend and I ordered the pad Thai and the lovely waitress made sure it didn’t have fish sauce. It was amazing! Wanted to go back for more. OH! And the lovely little cat was adorable, my friends and I loved it. I tell everyone back in Australia about this place and want to visit Japan again just to come back here. See you...

Shimokitazawa never stops amaze me.

This tiny little Thai Restuarent delivers mouth watering Thai cuisines. At your request the friendly chef will do her best to make meals vegan,vegetarian and even gluten free.

My go to dish is vegan gapao rice. Taste amazing and more over if you are spicy lover you just need to tell it Chef Miyuki she will do wonders to make it deliver and you will be for sure surprise 😁.

They do have a takeout menu and they do offer food on Uber as well.

The food was pretty good, full of flavors and properly spicy! Gapao rice was my personal winner, very delicious! Good papaya salad too. On that day there was a leftover soup from lunch time, and the lady working in the store kindly let us get it for free :) Nice bonus! Every dish can be adjusted to be made vegan/vegetarian. But you have to pay extra ¥200 for every adjusted dish, which doesn’t really make sense to me, as tofu/soy meat is definitely cheaper than meat/fish/shrimps. Very big minus for me was the speed. Everything was very very slow and it took ages to get our food prepared

Love love love this restaurant!! Worth the wait. Miyuki-san is so friendly and makes amazing food. Time flies by here with the great atmosphere, good food and drinks, and good music. I recommend the pad Thai, gapao rice, Pad See Ew (thick noodles), and Papaya Salad (beware, it’s spicy!) The only challenging point is the schedule seems to constantly change and be random as to when it’s open. Best to message on LINE first or if you have time just to swing by. I wish there was a schedule on SNS or more consistent times!
