Oh my god. First of all, the vibe of the place is so peaceful. It’s tucked away in this really cool little section just off the main streets, full of interesting graffiti and stickers. It feels like it’s in Hyakkendana—beautiful, kooky little area.
The place itself is beautiful and nicely designed. The staff were so welcoming, so friendly. Inside had this serene atmosphere that made the whole experience so enjoyable.
They gave me a choice between a chicken katsu set, salmon katsu set, and a pork katsu set. I went with the salmon katsu, and it was incredible—so fresh it was almost raw, but perfectly tender and crispy on the outside. It came with Japanese-style tartar sauce (egg, mayo, pickles all chopped together), finely shredded cabbage, and this chunky wasabi that had such a unique texture and taste. Everything was top quality.
The food came out almost instantly, with unlimited rice and unlimited eggs. The eggs sit in little baskets around the restaurant—you just grab as many as you want and crack them over your rice or katsu. Such a fun touch.
The katsu sauce itself was beautifully balanced: sweet, salty, savoury, rich. Even the little soy sauce bottles were pretty. And I loved the chopstick holders—tiny demon faces where the chopsticks rest in the demon’s mouth. Such attention to detail.
Honestly, this was a 10/10 experience—stunning food, peaceful atmosphere, and so many thoughtful little details. Truly amazing. I’d go out of my way to...
Read moreOne of the delicious tonkatsu restaurants in Tokyo is called Tonkatsu Akira Shibuya, just a 3-minute walk from Mega Don Quijote Shibuya. There are plenty of tables inside, making it convenient for bringing kids. You can scan the barcode on each table to see the menu and order. Raw eggs are available at each table, and you can eat as much as you like. It's unique!
The first dish we ordered was the Abel Black Pork Loin & Fillet Set Meal ¥3,300. This set meal includes rice, miso soup, cabbage, pickled radish and cucumber. This restaurant is famous for its Abel Black Pork, which originates from Kagoshima Prefecture.
The second dish we ordered was the Rare Salmon Cutlet Hitsumabushi, ¥2,800. This set meal comes with several condiments, including wasabi, green onions, seaweed, egg salad, and dashi broth. The salmon is topped with ikura (salmon roe). This was our first time eating this dish, and it was delicious. It's a must-order when you come here.
FYI, the rice and cabbage can be refilled at no additional cost. So, for those of you visiting Shibuya, don't forget to stop by Tonkatsu Akira. The food is delicious, and you'll be satisfied and full. Enjoy your meal here, and don't...

We stopped by for an afternoon lunch around 2pm, a few other tables taken but we were able to sit right away. Staff is friendly and make sure to guide you on how to order on the app but they have physical menus as well.
we went with a couple pork katsu plates as well as the salmon katsu.
of course you start off with some miso soup that is delectable and tasty.
The regular pork katsu are amazing. Juicy, tender, breaded nicely and fried to crispy perfection. The cabbage is fresh and the sauces are nice.
But damn that salmon is out of this world. Perfectly cooked so it's like you're eating sashimi with a fried coating. It's light, soft to the bite, and just melts in your mouth. This was phenomenal and I will come back...
