Tsukishima Monja Tamatoya Hibiya — Restaurant in Tokyo

From the moment we stepped into this restaurant the first thing we were told was that final drinks was 2230 and final food 2200…we arrived at 2115 and were told this multiple times before we had even gotten our food which was at 2215.

We were then told once we had received our food that we had to pay before the till closed..again multiple times this was repeated while we were eating which we explained we understood.

The atmosphere was terrible. So HOT I mean I understand it’s a BBQ but this place had absolutely zero ventilation. On top of this I asked the waiter for a water (we had ordered 2 soft drinks which we had finished prior to our food coming due to the heat). The waiter nodded and said they would bring one. 10 minutes passed, still nothing. I asked another waiter, and then another 10 minutes later another waiter. Still NOTHING! I explained if it was because they can’t do drinks after 2200 then that’s incorrect because I asked well prior to that. Every waiter just kept nodding like they understood then went to go about talking at the back near the kitchen. I got to the point where it was that hot and went out to a vending machine to get water because I was fed up.

This restaurant does not put water on the table freely or bring it to you when asked. And do not go from 2100 onwards because they are all worried about packing up, being distracted and closing up the entire time. Food was average, I’ve had better. I will not be returning or...

Our conclusion: Very disappointing. We visited the location because of the good reviews. At first, everything was fine. We (4 tourists) ordered the food via QR Code without any problems, our waiter was very friendly and the food was good and it was served quickly in the beginning (2 Monjayaki, Edamame, Kimchi). But as soon as more customers arrived, it seems that the staff were overstrained. At least, they were suddenly extremely slow.. we asked for an empty plate for the Edamame and we had to ask again because the waiter forgot. We noticed, that the Japanese guests next to us received their food constantly very quickly... while we were waiting a long time for the Okonomiyaki and the Modanyaki. Also we noticed, a foreign family were also waiting a very long time for their food and they did not look very happy. We received the Okonomiyaki by asking twice and the air conditioning was so intense.. it was cold, very uncomfortable sitting there, we lost our appetite and just wanted to leave this location. The food was good but it is not worth accepting all of these inconveniences. Other customers may have good impressions of this location, but we can not share...

I want to leave zero but I can’t. F this place. I love Japan and I love Tokyo and have plans to live in this incredible city one day. I been to many restaurants here and truly all my experiences have been incredible from the most mom and pop shops to the Michelin star winners.

But this restaurant showed no care to me and my family. They sat us down and for 25 minutes gave us no attention, not even water at the table. Mind you others were seated after us and taken care of. Maybe it’s cause I’m American, maybe it’s cause my tattoos, I don’t know but the sheer lack of attention was unbelievable. Even when I called the server over she came and then walked away and never returned but had the time to sit 5 others groups.

I work in customer service and I can tell the difference between being understaff and overwhelmed. This place was neither.
