It's not the building with the signage of Uobei (Genki Sushi) itself, but rather, the building to its left (view from the side of JR line entrance) with a double door. Take the elevator to the 3rd floor.
We ordered all the recommended / special but unfortunately, not impressed -- all were fishy and unfortunately, the taste lingered even after, very strong fishy aftertaste. The only ones we liked were the aburi sushis (because it was able to mask the fishyness). Chawan mushi was also ok.
Affordable though, we paid ¥1,970 for 10 plates + a chawan mushi but would not recommend. To be fair, this is the first sushi conveyor belt I've tried in Tokyo so I have no comparison if other places taste like this too.
Location: very convenient, across JR line Shin-Okubo station entrance
We finished eating around 12:30 and while there more people already compared to when we first arrived, there were still available seats since the place is...
Read moreUobei (often stylized as UoBEI and associated with Genki Sushi) offers a fast, affordable, and technologically advanced kaiten-zushi (conveyor belt sushi) experience. The unique ordering system, done entirely through tablets at each table, streamlines the process and minimizes wait times. Dishes are delivered directly to your table via a high-speed conveyor belt. While the quality of the sushi isn't top-tier, it's surprisingly good for the price, with a wide variety of classic rolls, nigiri, sides, and even desserts. This makes Uobei a great option for a quick, casual, and budget-friendly meal, especially for solo diners or groups. The high-tech ordering system and fast-paced environment add a fun and modern twist to the traditional kaiten-zushi experience. However, the bustling atmosphere can be a bit overwhelming for some, and those seeking a more traditional or intimate sushi experience might prefer...
Read moreOK, so this is not the place to go if you want to impress a date. But if you want great value sushi, this is the place. It's not Jiro I dream of sushi, but they're also not racist and everything is in multiple languages and unpretentious. It's filled with ordinary Japanese families, so you know it's not a tourist trap either.
I don't know how they do it. They're either fully staffed by robots in the kitchen or a lot of low price labor, but the food comes out within 1 - 3 minutes after ordering on the tablet. For 2 people, we had 30 orders of sushi and 2 beers, total bill was about $42 USD, tax included and no need to tip. This included several orders of toro, salmon roe, ankimo, sea urchin, and scallops. In Los Angeles, this would easily be over $200 BEFORE tax and tip.
You can reserve ahead of time if you use their app or register by the website. You'll need to understand Japanese...
