Ever dined in a literal art exhibit? If no, then this is your chance! This one-of-a-kind experience is worth waiting in a line for. We went when it was raining outside so the only real dining option was the reversibile rotation room, which is indoor. That room fits I believe around 10-12 guests, so you may want to either come early or be ready to wait. When we went there was 1 staff member responsible for the guest list and serving guests on the inside. When we got there, it was a small store front with a register and black curtains that closed the reversible rotation room off from public view. We were confused at first because a staff member wasn’t around to greet us, but we eventually understood the arrangement and waited in the shopping area after we added ourselves to the list.
Be prepared to order and pay for everything prior to being seated as this gives the culinary team time to prepare the meal.
We enjoyed the standard Vegan Ramen Uzu style ramen and followed it with a warm green tea and peanut butter and chocolate donut. The ramen was perfect! The creamy miso-oat broth was delicate, rich and heavenly. Writing about it is making me hungry! They added little cherry tomatoes to the top, which I usually avoid on ramen but these were cooked nicely and added an umami flavor to the ramen. The noodles had a great texture and were cooked perfectly. To add, the meal was presented as a piece of art. You can tell the meal was cooked with patience and each ingredient was carefully selected.
We also enjoyed the donut - we felt that vegan desserts were rare to find in Tokyo so we took every opportunity we had to indulge in sweets. They weren’t disappointing but also not phenomenal. I did like that they offered to warm up the donut, which on a cold and rainy day was actually...
Read moreIf you’re on a quest to find the best vegan ramen in Tokyo, look no further than this hidden gem that we stumbled upon during our trip. Situated in an unassuming and somewhat odd location that you wouldn't typically associate with phenomenal dining, this walk-up window is a revelation for food enthusiasts, especially those following a plant-based diet.
The warm and welcoming staff, interacting from behind the window, greeted us with genuine smiles, setting the stage for a memorable culinary experience. The atmosphere around the window was surprisingly cozy and inviting, making us feel right at home despite being miles away from our usual haunts.
But let's talk about the main event—the vegan ramen. It's not just good; it's a culinary masterpiece. Each bowl was a vibrant tapestry of flavors and textures, with a broth so rich and robust that it's hard to believe no animal products were used. The noodles were perfectly cooked, springy, and did an excellent job of soaking up the delicious broth, while the array of toppings added a delightful crunch and freshness to each bite.
What really sets this place apart is how they’ve mastered the complexity of flavors using purely vegan ingredients, achieving a depth that rivals, and perhaps even surpasses, traditional ramen joints. It's a bold statement to make, but this vegan ramen truly stands out as one of the best we've had in Tokyo, and possibly anywhere.
This unexpected find was undoubtedly a highlight of our culinary adventures in the city. Whether you’re vegan or simply a ramen aficionado looking for an exceptional bowl, this place is well worth the detour. Do yourself a favor and give it a try—you won’t be...
Read moreLol a 1600 Yen cover charge HAHAHAHAHAHAH... hang on, gotta catch my breath...HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHABAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA I had 2 drinks and an appetizer at the bar behind them before going in and I only paid 1800 Yen. Self inflated much? I don't know what anything tastes like because I'm not stupid enough to waste that money on that, but I can assure you, it's not worth it based on what I saw in the team labs exhibit itself. And it was more of a zoo exhibit than an art exhibit and things weren't looking better in the exterior part of that restaurant. Now, I know why the door girl was so confused when I said, yeah, sure, I'll go inside and have a drink. She too was confused about why some lunatic would pay $10 to go inside. I could be a millionaire and I wouldn't waste it on that. And if memory serves, because I didn't look again, I was too busy laughing (literally) as I walked on the sidewalk, laughing hard, like tears to my eyes laughing hard, after she told me that that was the cover charge to go in and that it does not include anything at all. You know, in Bali, they have minimum spend,....but you get something with that money. It's minimum, spend not cover charge, but they both are there for the same reason. If the cover charge was like 500 yen like any other izakaya, we'd be good, I'd be inside drinking right now. But you guys are INSANE to ask for that much money for me to have the HoNoR (s/) to go inside and spend another $10...
