Got the chance to drop by here again recently, and it's still every bit as fabulous as I remembered. Chill atmosphere with soft jazz playing in the background, fabulous desserts, and some of the best coffee you'll find in Japan. This time I tried a seasonal flavored latte (pumpkin), which was perfectly balanced to have a lovely flavor without being overwhelming. I also tried the Espresso Zenzai for the first time, which is essentially a Japanese twist on a classic affogato. It was really tasty, highly recommend! If you're in the mood for something sweet and truly fabulous, definitely have the cheesecake, it's still one of the best I've ever had. One of the things I love about this place (besides the food and drinks) is the staff. The baristas are so kind and friendly, and they are glad to explain the menu in detail. One of my favorite things is that they pour the latte in front of you so you get to watch the creation of the latte art - and each type of latte has a different style of latte art! It brings their craft to another level and makes for very photogenic drinks, if that's your thing! (It definitely is mine, as you can see...) It's also just across from Yamashita park and a few streets from Chinatown (Chuukagai), so it's a great place to sit, rest your feet, and catch your breath while you take a break from the busy streets and...
Read moreNice location near the park, told me they had a minimum one drink per person when I came with my wife and infant daughter for a coffee. High risk ordering two coffees when you don’t know if you’ll like it and a bit pricier than most of the other third wave places in town. Had a soy latte which is very similar to Australian flat white but looks like a 240 ml cup - foam etc the same. Milk texturing professional but brand of soy was not very nice - coffee a tad bitter but smooth extraction. Possibly because they are doing a double shot? Few food options so not really a lunch place but they have...
Read moreMy wife and I are from Seattle, a stone's throw away from Espresso Vivace in Capitol Hill where this wonderful cafe draws some inspiration (and ingredients!)
I cannot overstate how delighted we were to accidentally find such a loving tribute to our home in Yokohama. Not only is their coffee a faithful recreation of the taste of Espresso Vivace, but the vibe inside both emulates and honors the culture of Seattle extremely well. They even play KNKX radio from Seattle live in the store on a quality speaker system setup.
Thank you to the owner and our barista for this slice of home...
