和牛専門店 YUFUYA — Restaurant in Yufu

Our group of five decided to dine at this restaurant in Yufuin, based on its high rating on Google Maps. Unfortunately, what we anticipated to be a fine dining experience quickly turned into a nightmare.

To start, the menu we were given differed from the one displayed outside. While we suspected there might be separate day and night menus, no explanation was offered. We ordered four individual wagyu sets and one sushi set to share. However, the sequence in which the dishes were served was baffling. It took 45 minutes after placing our order for the first dishes to arrive. Oddly, we weren’t served water until after we had finished eating. Even more surprising, the sushi, which was intended as a shared starter, arrived last.

The food itself was average—certainly not worth the price. You could easily find the same quality elsewhere for less. Despite spending over 20,000 yen, we left the restaurant still hungry, as the portions were quite small.

Upon checking out, we noticed that the menu offers a 20% discount in exchange for positive reviews, which likely explains the inflated ratings. We felt it necessary to share our disappointing experience to give a more accurate reflection.

In conclusion, this restaurant is vastly overpriced and overrated. The wait time is long, the meals are light, and the service is questionable. I would recommend thinking twice before choosing...

Loved everything about our dinner there. We ordered the top yakiniku set with Chateaubriand. Everything was amazing. All the kalbi items (there were 3 you could order) were good. The wagyu dashi ochazuke was crazy i think i will be dreaming about it for the next couple of weeks. I like that they aburi the wagyu sushi with charcoal, however I also feel like that dish was the most average out of everything we had.

Loved the condiments, their yakiniku sauce was really good. I’ve never dipped beef in yuzukoshou before and it went so well together. We went in a little early to avoid possible dinner time rush at 5pm and had a peaceful time. Lovely service, very nice friendly staff. It was on the pricey side but so worth it! We ordered 2 cuts of beef, wagyu sandwich, chazuke and beef sushi and everything we had was 10/10 our favourite was the sushi that was aburi-ed w charcoal when served at our table - it was smokey and melted in our mouths.

The whole meal was insane value for money at about $80 usd for 4 people with extremely high quality wagyu.

As if there aren't enough positives, the best part of our experience was the service, the owner was managing the entire operation solo - taking orders, answering queries, cooking and cleaning up dishes and even tho he was busy he still walked us out and waved to us until we were out of sight 🥺
