This place is very special to us, as we previously held many personal celebrations here. So, we were more than just excited to see that it is still open four years later. The atmosphere here is like nowhere else in Almaty. Cozy little dining room and exceptional service lay a strong foundation for an excellent experience, especially when backed up by outstanding cuisine. If you are in a rush, this is probably not the establishment you should choose. Considering the restaurant's size, the kitchen itself is relatively small, so you shouldn't expect fast food pace but will be rewarded with flavoursome dishes. But for us it is an oyster joint in the first place. Grab a bottle of sparkling wine and a few dozen oysters. What can be better? No doubt, they have the best choice of oysters in Almaty. The variety is pretty impressive, and they are well educated about the texture and flavour profile of each oyster they offer. Which I yet to see in another restaurant in Almaty offering oysters. Thus, we mainly concentrated on oysters trying six different kinds on our glorious return and were very satisfied. We also tried other items on the menu, and they were simply delicious. While strolling through the city, we spotted Oyster Bar’s charming veranda, tucked away from street noise with lush greenery. The promise of champagne and oysters was too tempting to resist, so we stepped in for a taste.
FOOD:
The menu is a seafood lover’s paradise, brimming with delicacies like crabs, lobsters, Japanese scallops, and various oysters. We sampled two types of oysters, both impressively fresh, meaty, and infused with a subtle briny flavor, perfectly detached from their shells for easy eating. The scallops were delicious, with a tender, chewy texture, though they lacked a touch of sweetness we were hoping for. The lobster tail was fresh and slightly sweet, but its chewier, shrimp-like texture didn’t quite deliver the creamy consistency we prefer. The small bottles of champagne were a brilliant touch, pairing flawlessly with the oysters and elevating the experience.
SERVICE:
The service was solid, likely thanks to the manager who attended to us. He was well-versed in the menu, sharing details about the seafood’s origins and even black caviar with confidence. His knowledge and approachable demeanor made the meal even more enjoyable.
VERDICT:
Oyster Bar offers a pleasant atmosphere and quality seafood, making it a good choice for those craving marine cuisine. While some dishes could be refined, the oysters and champagne make it a worthwhile stop for a seafood...
