We wanted to try more dishes that's why we decided to order a set meal which included a starter, a main course and a dessert. That was a mistake because practically all the food was bad. The food looked nice but that's about all the good regarding the food. It was also very expensive for Lao standards as it cost 180k kip.
The starters were okayish, although nothing special and I didn't really think about them being somehow typical Lao. The worst were definitely the plates of the main course. Or lam (they didn't even bother writing the traditional names of the dishes on the menu) had way too many spices which made it uneatable and it had just one small piece of pork. Stuffed lemongrass with chicken where chicken didn't even taste like chicken. The steamed vegetables were without any flavor and almost completely raw. Sticky rice which is eaten all over Laos and Southeast Asia came a bit undercooked as well.
Waiters also didn't give us practically any attention, while the table next to us were given all the explanations of the dishes. Maybe because they paid more. Luckily, there was miscommunication in the order because we were given just one set menu instead of two. Also, it was somehow very hot in the area where we were sitting compared to the rest of the restaurant. Luckily, they had a fan.
It might have been better if we ordered individual dishes instead. In the end, this is another example of a restaurant that is designed for foreigners wanting to try Lao food. This seems to be an increasing problem in Luang Prabang as it's getting more and more popular with...
Read moreI think the staff is lack of training.
We are family of 4 people, my boyfriend who is practicing vegetarian. We ordered the below:
2 fried rice (vegetarian) 1 chicken yellow curry 1 fried mix vegetables (vegetarian) 1 Vegetables soup with Tofu (vegetarian)
Vegetable soup with tofu is recommended by the staff said they can replace pork ribs by tofu. However the Soup is served with pork ribs, we immediate tell the staff..and we heard some quarrels between the staff and the kitchen…another staff come by to ask can they remove the pork ribs and just add tofu in the soup? of cos this is not acceptable for a vegetarian.
The staff that take our order said they will prepare again the soup for us. We wait awhile and the soup serve again, this time the soup serve with pork ribs and tofu together. We decided to give up changing and take it.
When we have our billed..guess what..they charging us extra Laos 20000 for tofu added in the soup. The staff who passed us bill and others staff, all of them have a guilty look on their face.
【This is ridiculous!】 First the soup is served wrong, second they are charging customer extra for the staff their own mistake! Definitely a bad experience we had in laos and the dinner price is not cheap!
I hope the owner see this review and please reconsider your menu “ All recipes can be prepared by tofu “ ??
Make sure all your staff and the kitchen...
Read moreMy best friend and I did the evening cooking class with Chef Linda and I can’t say enough great things about it! We were greeted with an iced coffee and chose 4 dishes for us to cook. We’re vegetarian and they were incredibly accommodating and helpful with ingredient substitutions and ideas on how we could substitute things once we went home. The actual cooking class is on a beautiful farm just outside of town where all the vegetables and herbs are grown for the classes. We were taught how to make pretty garnishes and all the details of the dishes we cooked, including their significance in Laos culture. We were offered plenty of drinks as we were cooking as well. Once we were all done, they set up a beautiful place for us to eat on the patio overlooking the farm. They also made us a cocktail with dinner and offered us some Lao whiskey to finish off our meal. The cookbook you take home also has over 20 recipes in it for you to try. This cooking class was the best part of my trip to Laos!! Definitely a must-do when you’re in...
