This was one of our family's favourite breakfast and cake places; however, in the past year the quality of service and attitude has become the worst.
Firstly, it seems that the staff is not allowed to write down orders to present it as a high-end place, therefore, every time we've been there in the past year, we've been asked multiple times to clarify our order (e.g. as simple as tea or water) and the waiting time for a full order to come has been up to an hour.
Secondly, every time I've been there lately (in the past 6 months), staff seems to be confused and cannot focus on answering simple questions (getting a menu, putting up chairs in the terrace, etc.) as they're trying to figure out orders (all internal communication, of course, takes place in Russian). It would be beneficial to have at least someone on the team who can teach what high quality service is about, what are the key aspects of pleasant communication and customer service.
Thirdly, as a member of the neighborhood and a new mom, when going on walks, there have been multiple times I'm required to walk (with a stroller) through the trees/grass by the crossing right across the street from the cafe as their 'important and busy' clients park their cars by the yellow line. As an establishment that would like to keep their reputation and brand as a reflection of their high quality food and ingredients, unique desserts and beautiful design, this would also involve responsibility towards its clients and the neighborhood by educating their clients about the parking situation or simply the norms for pleasant and respectful behaviour for the people that live in this area.
Based on our experience, it doesn't seem a very personal place, for instance, if you compare with the coffee place All capuccino right down the Vidus street where the owners are present and involved in the business development and client relationships.
Taking into account our love for this place, we've always encouraged our family and friends (also visiting friends from abroad) to come and enjoy the food and the atmosphere; however, a month ago me and my husband decided to stop wasting our time and enjoy other places around the block as the Mulberry brand and attitude you get is one of the worst we've...
Read moreThe breakfast was tasty (finally! We have been looking for at least tasty breakfast here in Riga for about 10 months). Interior looks great and cozy. But! Speaking of breakfast: there are no side dishes at all! Like when you order omelette- you are getting omelette only. No more than it's mentioned in the menu. Like not even a piece of bread, or a small tomato, or even salad. A very poor-looking dish, I think they should work a bit on that. The breakfast average price is 12 EUR and more. So I bet if you put a small ciabatta or cucumbers, or sauce there- you won't lose much. Another thing that's been VERY disappointing for us: the desserts. We have ordered a raspberry macaroon dessert and the chocolate -raspberry mousse. First, this place was advised to me for their "best macaroons in the city". It's good-looking, right. But that's it. The texture of macaroon is like it's been over-baked, or simply too thick and hard. It doesn't have that wet, melting-macaroon texture at all, and looks more like a regular colored cookie. Another thing was that mousse. It's more like truffle or another kind of chocolate sweet. But nothing close to mousse.
As a result we have paid around 45 EUR for two poor omelettes (that was at least tasty) +two good -looking, but extremely bad desserts (I bet the desserts like these can be sold in supermarket) and 3 cups of coffee. I'm ok to pay that much for breakfast, but it has to be at least...
Read moreThis cafe has all the makings of a great spot—but unfortunately, it stumbles where it shouldn’t.
The coffee itself is actually good - Illy. It’s clear someone behind the bar knows what they’re doing. But then they ruin it by using cheap, imported milk from Poland instead of fresh, high-quality local milk from Latvia. The result? A latte or flat white that falls flat, undermining what could be an excellent cup. For a place charging top-tier prices, this choice feels cheap and, frankly, disappointing.
And then there’s the service. Staff consistently come across as rude, impatient, or simply uninterested. Whether you’re asking a basic question or just waiting for your order, the vibe is cold at best. It’s hard to relax when it feels like you’re inconveniencing the people you’re paying.
The cakes are the one unqualified success: beautifully made and consistently delicious. A shame, really—this place could be so much better with a few simple changes like using local quality products instead if cheap import and have a nicer, more...
