Naples — Restaurant in Riga

Oooh my god. A diamond in the rough! The place isn't much to look on from the outside - if anything, it looks like a wooden shed with delusions of grandeur. But I was in the neighborhood, and I was a bit hungry, so I decided to give it a shot.

Well, it looked a lot nicer on the inside, and the river view from the terrace wasn't half bad. But then I got the menu, and my mood got sour again. There was something like six or seven items on the menu, and that's usually not a good sign. It was also limited to main courses and side dishes, no fancy stuff with starters, desserts and whatnot. Nonetheless, I decided to give the local steak a spin.

IT WAS BRILLIANT.

Not only the steak itself was excellent and grilled exactly to my taste. The truly wonderful thing is that you order a steak, roast potatoes and sauce, and that's exactly what you get! There's no broccoli, sweet potatoes, carrots, random sauces spilled all over your meat and all such silliness. It's just you and the glorious, slightly sizzling hunk of meat in front of you.

I'm certain the proprietors of this place have developed some Zen-like understanding of the "no frills" concept, because that was exactly what I got, and it was better than I could ever expect it to be from the description. This was the best steak I had in my life, and I'm surely coming back for more.

Expect to spend around 30 EUR, a bit less if you go for something other than steak. But why would you do such a thing?! Serving times are pretty short, I had to wait for about...

We have been disappointed a lot during our dinner at Naples! We ordered a „fish soup“ which was basically just a tomato soup with lots of baby squids in it ! There was no salmon or other fish in this soup even though written in the menu ! The taste - basically just like ordinary tomato soup! So we decided to give it back to the kitchen because it’s not worth 14€! The waiter took it back BUT put it on the bill in the end and told us that he has to pay it from his OWN money if we don’t pay for the soup which we DID NOT eat! In that case he should have told us and should have left it at our table instead of taking it without a single word and then putting it on our bill! Seriously there is no other place in whole Europe or out of Europe where I had to pay for a dish which was absolutely not what it should be from description! And i have never heard that waiters have to pay for guests who are not conform with their dish. Seriously what is this ? Really disappointing. Pizza was way too soft only good thing we had was tuna sashimi which had really good quality but also expected for 20€!!! On top the service is bad - really arrogant for instance we ordered Heineken and got one which costs double the price without one word about it.. we gave them 15€ in cash in the end after big discussion for this soup because we could not be so rude to let them pay it from their own money! We booked a table for around 14 people and even placed our pizza orders in advance. Unfortunately, the experience was very disappointing from the start. When we arrived, we were rushed to our table, and pizzas started to come out immediately. However, it took about 20–30 minutes for all the pizzas to arrive, and only then were our drink orders taken. This meant that some people had to start eating without any drinks, and there was not even water on the tables.

When the drinks were finally ordered, they took a long time to arrive. We had to remind the staff several times, as some drinks were forgotten completely (simple orders like beer, Coke, and wine). To make things worse, one of the waitresses (short blonde hair) seemed visibly irritated, very unfriendly, and gave the impression that we were not welcome. It created such an unpleasant atmosphere that we just wanted to leave.

The bill was presented very quickly, but it even included drinks that we never received. Overall, it was a terrible experience. As we were hosting colleagues from abroad and wanted to showcase Riga, it turned out to be extremely disappointing.
