So, we did visit this place multiple times over the week. It started as a "let's find a pub and get a drink before we do an escape room" but because we loved the ale (Shepards Meeme - I believe) we thought we'd go back for dinner. However, 3 out of 4 dishes were cold and due to the lack of visibility of our waiter, my wife and mother-in-law approached the bar to express concerns. Unfortunately they were literally told to "wait for your waiter". So the meals were eaten and when the waiter finally came back to see how things were, after we were finished, I complained and explained the problem. They did give us 15% off the bill but it doesn't make up for eating a cold meal.
We went back because we did enjoy the ale, however they had run out the next day. We didn't stay for a full meal but the calamari and spring rolls were delicious, no problems. This is the only reason we visited after the first let down with cold food. Sometimes you win, sometimes you lose.... Some of the staff are understanding and some are just rude. So I'm giving it 3 stars but I would give it more if they made some changes to how they approach things. Riga, is full of places to eat and drink. If you run out of ideas, check...
Read moreConsidering the location, this place probably survives only because it’s right in the middle of the city center. €9 for a beer? I’ve dined in Michelin-starred restaurants, and even they didn’t charge that much for a draft. The prices overall are completely out of proportion—you’d think you were in a high-end restaurant, not in a rundown pub lookalike.
I can accept that this is a tourist trap, and of course no one forced me to stay. But at the end, when the bill (2 drinks and a snack) came, the waiter mentioned that service wasn’t included (fair enough) and asked if we’d like to leave something. We said €2, but he charged €3 instead—and we only noticed after paying contactless. So either the waiter can’t calculate, which is bad enough, or he did it deliberately, which is worse.
I’ve read that many restaurants in Riga’s Old Town are mainly for tourists, and sadly this seems to be true. My advice: avoid this place—and maybe most restaurants in Riga’s Old...
Read moreFood and drinks were overpriced. The garlic bread was brown, which I've never seen anywhere else. It was not good at all. My drink was great, but 10 euros is a lot (they are normally 5-7 euro elsewhere). The wait for my main course was quite long, it was a 15 euro pasta. It was fine but not great, but quite a small portion size for the price being that high.
They don't serve tap water, but there was a staff member 2 tables away drinking tap water on break. Music was fine and not too loud. Twice there was very obnoxiously loud chanting that I don't think came from people at the restaurant and rather was something projected in. Even after turning on my noise cancelation headphones, this sound was still present. It very much ruined the otherwise alright atmosphere.
I very rarely leave google reviews, but I really really wouldn't recommend this place, especially if you are someone with noise sensitivity...
