OVERRATED! EXPENSIVE! TERRIBLE SERVICE! NOT WORTH IT!

First of all, don't trust the 5-star reviews here, mostly they bribed their customers to leave good reviews on Google in exchange for free drinks.

Went to this restaurant twice but I regretted giving them the benefit of the doubt and came for the 2nd time. Tried their signature Ikan Bakar but the taste was meh and the fish was not fresh, it had a horrible foul fishy smell. Their fried squid tasted okay but again the squid was not fresh, it was chewy and I felt like I was eating rubber. The other dishes were too salty!

The service was super slow. It was terrible to wait for an hour for all of the food to be served and other customers who ordered later than us were served first.

The lady who was taking the order and weighing the stale seafood was skillful at pushing the price up so that the customers ended up having to pay more than they should. She tried to double-charge us for the rice! Please beware and pay attention to your receipt if you’re eating here!

This restaurant already failed to handle a medium crowd but I guess the owner is greedy enough and still asked their staff to do live on their social media inviting people to come and fill all of the empty seats. Please hire enough workers before expecting a huge crowd and improve your services! One more thing, it is very rude to do live and point the camera at your customer’s faces, especially without their consent! Have some respect for your customer's privacy!

I’ll never return to this restaurant again and I do not recommend it to anyone! There are other restaurants that serve cheaper fresh seafood with good services and...

I normally never give a bad view when going to eat tasty foods with a good ambiance since people recommend this place highly on Facebook..but,i was totally disappointed yesterday as i came early to eat there with friends at 5.40pm, placing our order with SOP procedure, paying and sit to our table in a good mood,waiting..we were hungry, and after 7pm still not getting our orders i go and ask where is our food.. it's been more than hour and the servis there say since there's a lot of people's, please be patience, its on the way..i calm down a went back to our table..but,after waiting another 40minutes my friend go and ask again, they say our orders was missing.. seriously?i was so mad,how can they let it happen? I never wait 2hour just for foods, and suddenly they rushing to our table placing foods that not even the one i been ordering, not even compare the money I've been paying and even worse we have to accept everything bcoz that's all left and they do not want me getting a refund? believe me,this is the first and last time i ever going here.. others may have a good luck and good memories of this place but unfortunately not for us..just hope they make improvements so things like this won't happen again to...

We had a bad experience.

Firstly, we ordered ikan bakar, sotong celup tepung, kangkung goreng belacan, udang buttermilk. During order we mentioned TWICE about the sotong celup tepung, the akak taking order was like “ya, ya”. So we waited.

After a while we checked the receipt only to realise she did not key in the sotong celup tepung. Went to the counter again just to get scolded, she said “kan saya dah repeat order” when she did not!!! We were the ones repeating the order. Please check your receipt immediately to double check. We ended up abandoning the sotong celup tepung as they will compute it as new order which will add the wait time.

Came at 7 (after sunset), got our first order ikan bakar at 8.24pm. Second order udang buttermilk at 8.34pm. Udang buttermilk was already cold. And our kangkung belacan never arrived, even when we called the waiters multiple times. They ended up refunding our kangkung.

I understand the restaurant is busy, they gave numbering system. But how come we only ordered 3 items (our queue no. was 38) but the table next to us, (queue no. 42) with more than 10 pax received their orders first?

And the food was so-so too. Not worth the...

First Visit 2024 Nice atmosphere, plenty of tables. Food serving within 15 minutes the most. Fresh fish cooked nicely without smell of fish (hanyir). Try sotong sambal very nice. Second Visit (June 2025) If you're hunting for fresh seafood near Kota Kinabalu, Ikan Bakar Sabah is worth checking out. It’s in a great spot close to town with plenty of parking and a dining setup that’s neat, spacious, and not overcrowded—perfect for a laid-back meal. From the start, the staff made us feel welcome. We got to pick our seafood—super fresh fish, prawns, squid, and crab—and they cooked everything just right. Our order included: - Siakap with Ginger Steamed Style - Grilled Sambal Ikan Sebelah - Deep-Fried Calamari - Dry Butter Prawns - Fried Chili Suri Crab - Stir-Fried Losun (wild garlic shoots) - Latok Everything tasted fantastic—flavorful, fresh, and satisfying. The grilled and steamed fish were standouts, though a bit on the pricey side. Still, for the quality and experience, it’s a fair trade. Ikan Bakar Sabah nails that classic seafood feast vibe with fresh ingredients, warm service, and a cozy setup—not to be missed if you’re a seafood lover in town.

Atmosphere: The restaurant has an open space, and although there is some breeze, it still feels very hot during lunchtime. Price: The cost of a meal with two dishes and rice is quite high at RM11. The price of the food is fixed, meaning that even if you take less, you still get charged the same amount. Food: The dish I had, Daging masak Hitam, was very tough and inedible, though the Sayur Bayam was okay. Service: The staff were friendly, and there was someone who asked for feedback on the food. I mentioned that the beef was too tough to eat. I think the staff need more training on how to handle feedback if the food is unsatisfactory. This is because when I gave my feedback about the food, the staff did not take it seriously and just responded with, “Oh, maybe you need to chew a bit longer,” in a joking tone. I feel there is no need to ask customers if the food is good or not if no action can be taken.
