Why rated 3 Star instead of 4 or 5 ? We know the meaning of nobody is perfect. When it comes to F&B, it is even tougher to be perfection. Brown Poodle serves good & delicious food (that's why they won many good rating) but they have not done well on the act of benevolence and humanity when it comes to service the customer. This evening we came in around 6.35pm (the sky still bright though) for their sumptuous "chicken rice", with great disappointment I was told that the rice finished earlier and now left with the yellow rice. I can't imagine why the chicken rice is so limited (it is only served every Monday) and why can't they prepare sufficiently for both lunch & dinner? Tonight's diner is only 3 tables before we came in. I think this is the trick so that they can push their yellow rice. Also note that this restaurant don't have any humanity or the act of benevolence as they don't allow you to join the square table in the middle row but force you to sit on the long table at the side of the restaurant. While I respect the rules of the restaurant but why can't the restaurant be a bit human & flexible when comes to bigger group (min 7 and above). Unfortunately we also facing the poor menu planning, we ordered set meal but was told the set meal is not available due to the soup. I told them I don't mind change the soup to miso soup so that I can still order my set meal. Obviously my proposal was rejected arrogantly. So we were force to order alacarte which is higher in price. Fortunately the waitress is hard working, she is the only person working on the ground running from front door to the back door serving the whole restaurant. Can you imagine? I hope they can improvise and improve immediately. A good restaurant not only serving good food, the service provided must equally good if not better, then you will have more...
Read moreNow this place has the best vegan burger I have eaten so far. Bar none. If you are looking for a vegan burger, look no more and try this place first. The patty is unbelievable. A thin crispy outer layer with the centre having a perfect chewy consistency. Good garnish, perfectly flavoured sauce and comes with an incredible soft tasty bun. Even the French fries are delicious. Superb superb dish and definitely not to be missed.
Even though the curry with the yellow rice could not reach the heights of the burger, I must commend the chef for the mild but well flavoured curry. It had a good thickness and velvety taste which goes well with the rice. Unfortunately it was too little and was barely enough for the rice. I has to leave some rice behind as I ran out of gravy. Also, even though it has well cooked potatoes and carrot, the amount of soy protein pieces were too little. In the end the dish was let down by having too little gravy for the amount of rice. Even the fresh crunchy salad couldn't help.
I ordered the set, so it came with soup of the day, which in my case was corn soup. The soup was thick and tasty but arrived luke warm. I don't know about you but some soups need to taken hot and corn soup to me need to come boiling hot.
The tiramisu of the other hand looked decadent and tasted impressive. Good play of creamy mascarpone, soft cake and crunchy oreo pieces. Incredible combination. Except that it was a little too salty which threw the whole equilibrium a little out of whack. It's not a deal breaker but could've been perfect otherwise.
In general, even with my nitpicking, I had a great enjoyable meal. And wholeheartedly recommend this to anyone looking for...
Read more✓ Vegan Options Prices are fair. A good set lunch promo. The place is nice and cozy (so cozy that you take off your shoes when you enter!), not for a big crowd as it's a small space with limited seating. Good amount of free parking available in front of the cafe.
Expanding menu (burgers, rice, noodles, pasta, pizza, etc.) since my last visit. Staff there was really nice and understood my needs to veganize my meal.
2016 visit: Had Pumpkin Soup, Black Poodle Burger Platter & coffee as the set lunch promo. Pumpkin soup was good, the burger... charcoal bun and sauce made it all too sweet. Coffee was good. I also had a piece of VEGAN BROWNIE which was AMAZING! A rare find in Penang, especially with it being so cheap for a piece (RM4 or 8 if I'm right).
2017 visit: Their Kimchi ramen is absolutely delicious (and it's not easy to find VEGAN kimchi ramen!). Vegan without the cheese. Black sesame cheesecake is fragrant and tasty. Daily changing vegan cakes.
Good place to hang out and get vegetarian/vegan options. Definitely recommend for a nice cosy experience alone or with a...
