Brussels Beer Cafe, Gurney Paragon — Restaurant in George Town

Update 2: Haven't been here in ages. In the meantime they have come up with a new food menu with many more local and Asian options. Nice 😋😊👍. My wife and I had the Rose Hoegaarden and Stella Artois beers, thick cut fries, Asian fried rice and a grilled chicken salad. Top-notch food and beers combined with friendly and attentive service. Not to forget Engelbert Humperdinck, Neil Diamond and Elvis Presley doing their magic in the background. A place to come back to 🍻😋👌.

Update 1: Excellent lunch deal. Really cool that these guys offer the deal even on weekends when other establishments are busy milking the crowds. The set comes with a soup, a main course and a drink (hot/ cold).

We had mushroom soup which was very well done. The main course selection was quite varied and had Asian and Western dishes. My wife tried the Oriental Pork Belly with rice and I had the Lamb Chop. Both were prepared very well and the portion sizes were extremely generous. I was even asked how I wanted the lamb done, and it was served exactly as I requested.

You also get to select from a decent variety of soft drinks, tea or coffee. Since I was at the beer joint, I also helped myself to a pint of the excellent Hoegaarden, chilled just right. Paid extra for that!!

Service was attentive and friendly. The food came out quite quickly and there was nice, friendly chatter going on without being too loud. There is ample outdoor seating which would be lovely on a cooler day. The lunch deal on a Saturday was a great find. And it didn't drill a hole in my pocket 🍺😋👍.

Older review: Excellent pints of draught Stella Artois and Hoegaarden Rosee with some freshly made Belgian frites. All served by a friendly crew....

First the good points. There are actually not many places that you can sit 'Al fresco' and people watch while having a cold beer. This is one of them. The sitting is quite comfortable and the beer is fairly priced for this kind of location. I liked my beer which came cold and tasted good.

As for the food, the aglio olio was delicious. The oil, the spice, the salt was well proportioned. The portion was filling too. However, do not order the pork chop. Everything that a pork chop shouldn't be, this had it. It was dry, it was tough, and most of all the meat was tasteless. The only saving grace, if you can call it that, was that the pork chop size was very generous.

Another redeeming factor is that the waiters are efficient. But I guess you just got to be careful what...

Had a terrible experience today by 2 Indian girls staffs. They did not want to serve us by informing us that there’s a private event on going inside. They came and told us that they will not be receiving any orders after 7:30pm and they want to close, however when a customer came and sat right by us, they were open to receive orders. Then they rudely tore up the paper that was attached on their glass door that stated ‘closed inside for private event after 5pm’.

To the management, please view the cctv proof of this that happened at around 7:20pm to 7:30pm.

I’m hoping to get a better service from Brussels as I’ve been a regular customer here since 2021.
