Rude staff and dated menu

My family and I came here for drinks and we ordered a drink each. It was not easy to get staff attention when we tried to order. After I ordered a second drink but my family didn’t as they have early starts the next day, the staff’s attitude became unfriendly. We were not taking up space as there were many tables available and anyway this was not the way to treat customers. I then accidentally chipped the cocktail glass as I knocked it with my water glass. I then asked to order the same cocktail again but the staff told me that the chipped glass cost RM35, I was unclear if he was asking me to pay for it but he didn’t acknowledge that I wanted to make another order. Communication was poor and the attitude was so bad. So I asked for the bill and decided to leave. Needless to say we will never visit this mediocre place with such bad service again. Any decent dining place would make sure no one was hurt by the glass but this was the first time I had this kind of attitude from a wait staff.

Apart from a good location in the mall, the menu was dated and seeing the cocktails on offer was like being brought back to a club 25 years ago, and even though we wanted to order some snacks there was nothing in the menu to go with drinks and not even any desserts that looked remotely attractive. Only 4 types of beer available for happy hour, Tiger, Heineken, Guinness Stout and Kilkenny. Apart from the last one, probably no different from what you could get from a kopitiam. **Review of Healy Mac Irish Bar & Restaurant, Penang

We visited Healy Mac Irish Bar & Restaurant on June 28, 2024, for Happy Hour at 12 PM after a walk in the mall. Given the hot weather in Penang, we were eager to cool down with a pint of Guinness and a Sangria cocktail.

While the Guinness was refreshing and perfect for the weather, the Sangria was a disappointment. It was just normal wine with fruit skins, lacking the proper fruits typically found in a well-made Sangria. As a paid customer, and considering the expensive charge for Sangria in this pub, we expected a quality cocktail.

We complained to the bartender, who defensively explained that the Sangria had been made the night before. This made us even more upset, as cocktails should be freshly made upon order. After further questioning, he admitted that he had prepared the Sangria himself. We also pointed out that Sangria should be served with juice and chopped fruits, not just with fruit skins. Despite our complaint, he didn't apologize but offered to remove the Sangria charge from our bill.

The management of the pub should seriously address this issue. The treatment we received was far below the standards we expected, especially when compared to the excellent service and quality we have experienced at Healy Mac in Mont Kiara, KL. Customers should not be treated as if they are ignorant of what a proper Sangria...

Healy Mac’s in Penang has truly become our go-to spot for family gatherings and unforgettable evenings. The stunning marina view paired with consistently excellent service makes every visit special. We look forward to coming here multiple times a year, and Healy Mac’s has never disappointed us.

The food is absolutely top-notch! The pork knuckle is a must-try—crispy, succulent, and packed with flavor—and their pizzas are simply delicious, pairing perfectly with a pint of the best Guinness draft in town. Mr. Mikon, the floor manager, always greets us with warmth and cheer, making us feel right at home. And of course, Mr. Guro, the outlet manager, brings his vibrant energy to every visit, never missing a chance to stop by our table to ensure we’re having a fantastic time.

My wife adores the martinis crafted by the skilled barman, and with a new menu on the way, we’re excited to try more dishes. Our kids, though, never miss their favorite pizza, which once came from the neighboring Don Corleone Pizza—delicious and perfect for family dining!

Ending the night with Healy Mac’s live band is a real treat, even though we leave a bit early due to the kids. Overall, Healy Mac’s by the marina is hands down the best bar in Penang for us! Rockerfeller, just a few steps away, is a solid second choice, but Mac’s...
