Taiba Shawerma Straits Quay — Restaurant in George Town

I had no idea what to eat at Straits Quay, but I saw many people ordering from this place and decided to give it a try. The staff were friendly and patiently answered my questions. I ordered the chicken shawarma rice and the chicken shawarma wrap.

The food took a while to prepare, but it was definitely worth the wait. The rice dish came with soup, and the portion was really big and tasted great. I actually had a hard time finishing it. Personally, I preferred the wrap. It was delicious, juicy and full of flavor.

Arab food everywhere is amazing, and that’s the same that I wouldn’t expect here. But boy was I wrong. The hummus had more of an olive oil and vinagre taste than peas. Samboussas were fried outside and a little cold inside, and usually you don’t expect potato curry inside. It needs to have minced meat or chicken, a real foodie would know. This place is a godsend especially working late at Straits Quay: they are incredibly helpful and polite and the falafel platter is my perfect plate of food. When my son is in town they are incredibly accommodating in terms of his dietary needs as he has severe and wide-ranging allergies: couldn't commend them enough for their helpfulness.
