04/09, changing my review as the kopitiam is not 'worthy' of praise.
A quaint little shop at the corner of Jalan Siam. Often packed and not enough tables going around during peak hours.
The shoplot was rather old and shabby. The alleyways were just cramped with stalls and were inaccessible. I do wonder if hygiene is gonna be a problem in the future. As they do their cooking, washing all by the side of the roads. Rather a sore sight for eyes.
Starting the day with a cup of coffee after a long wait to get a table and finally being able to sit down feels great. But the shop is way to small and there's just no ventilation, making it stuffy, as foods were cooking right besides, fumes and unwanted smoke do fill up the space making it uncomfortable.
Wan Than Mee vendor was just slow and would rather spend her time talking and bitching instead of serving noodles. The order took forever, even after having two cups of coffee, the order was nowhere to be seen. Turns out she has totally forgotten about it. And when you want to cancel the order she claimed that it is done and wants you to pay up as it is only RM5? It isn't about the price, we can pay, we can afford, it's the matter of principle as you were much more occupied with gossiping instead of preparing the meal.
As soon as we got up to ask about the order, some uneducated old lady just sat down even without asking. Best part is there was just other tables which she can intrude instead of ours, slamming her heavy bag and claiming the table is hers. Even the worthless cafe owner couldn't do a thing and just let it be. We decided to leave as noodles were never coming and paid the 'begger' nevertheless.
Toast bread was just sad. Unevenly done and just filled with pores. I would hardly even call that bread. The margarine tasted weird, with a skanky aftertaste. Kaya was just lacking any aroma or richness. Even pre packaged kaya tasted better.
Not worth coming as there are better places with better tasting food...
Read moreIt was my first time trying the fu kui mee, and I found the taste not bad. The soup was served hot, though the sambal wasn’t really to my liking.
However, my low rating is mainly because of the char kuey teow. The overall experience with both the service and the taste was disappointing. We waited over 30 minutes for just one plate. I understand the uncle fries plate by plate, but the kopitiam isn’t that large and it wasn’t very crowded. What upset us most was seeing him serve his friends or regular customers (i assumed so because they were chatting friendly) who arrived later than us — they got their char kuey teow within minutes while we were still waiting. That felt unfair and definitely extended our waiting time. We even had to remind him twice before our food arrived.
When the char kuey teow finally came, it was another letdown. We specifically ordered it spicy, but it wasn’t spicy at all. After such a long wait, our order wasn’t even made correctly, and the taste was just very ordinary. We didn’t make a fuss, just ate quietly and left — but it’s probably the last time we’ll come here for...
Read moreOne of the poorly and badly managed 'cafes' out there. Place was cramp and constantly filled will patrons that are young and old. But with the lack of space, you hardly get any privacy as patrons are always bumping into you or constantly eyeing you for your seat. The aggressive ones would just sit without even asking, like it is their table or shop, the worthless shop owner won't even bother to manage patrons like these. Wan Than Mee seller was just the worst, after waiting for my order for a good 30 minutes, nothing was served even after cups of coffee. Got up to ask whether was my order being made and patrons just sat down immediately without asking. Thinking that my table has been taken, I was seriously pissed and the rude vendor admit she had 'forgotten' about my order and miraculously it was done right away. She insisted me on paying as it was already 'done' as I wanted to cancel the order. Paid the 'pitiful beggar' vendor RM5 as she claimed that it was only pocket change for us. It's not about the value, it's about our time wasted and the lack of...
