TLDR; The rendang is the best in Penang!
My partner mentioned this restaurant prior to us making the 40 minute journey to Feringghi, but I thought we could do better. Boy, was I wrong.
It was our first time in Feringghi, and we were quite disappointed with the offerings on the beach, and the heat did not help as well, so we ended up here.
It's a very unassuming hole in the wall, so I can imagine many passers-by would glaze past it.
I had the curry laksa. The laksa was made with fresh ingredients that complemented the thick and savoury curry. Now that I'm writing this, I don't remember there being any meat, but the dish felt complete anyway.
My partner had the beef rendang. Now, we've been travelling around SEA for the past 2 years and have not been able to find exceptional (let alone passable) beef rendang. The good ones we've had, we can only count on one hand, with still a few fingers to spare.
Now this rendang was EXCEPTIONAL! The beef had the perfect bite that we're looking for, not too chewy or fatty, but the consistency of a beef dish that has been left to stew in all the beautiful spices over a few hours. It was a no frills dish otherwise, just some lettuce, cucumber, and rice to balance all the flavours together. It was so good that I ordered another one to go - and it tasted even better when we got to it after a few hours of leaving it in its packaging, which we did not think was possible!
The lady boss / chef had a friendly chat with us and told us her upcoming holiday plans. Had a short chat too with her husband while I was settling the bill. We were the only ones in the restaurant, but the owners were around enough for us to get their attention but not looming over us, trying to impress the touists. You can tell it's a family business with a lot of dignity and heart.
I would recommend this restaurant to EVERYBODY visiting Penang. I've seen more reviews on the other dishes, and I'm already looking forward to coming back here. It was definitely worth the 40-minute drive, no...
Read moreDo not recommend!!!!! 🤢🤮😡I went here the first night and the food was ok the spring rolls were really nice and the main meal was nice but so oily I felt sick when I got home. I happen to be out again tonight and thought I would just get some spring rolls as a quick snack. They are vegetarian, I have been a vegetarian my entire life, tonight I started eating them and noticed something chewy in it, I spat it out instantly feeling sick and disgusted and almost threw up to be honest there were bits of pork or chicken or something in them, so feeling a bit sick, and turned off my food, I went to the counter to pay for my glass of wine and told the owner about the problem, I said grab my plate and you will see the bits of meat on there. She did and she said Thankyou for pointing this out to her so she could tell the lady who makes them and show her. She then continued to charge me for the meal, I then said seriously you are charging me for something I couldn’t eat or enjoy and felt sick, that is disgusting, I honestly could not believe it so I paid 30 Ringgits for a glass of wine and a meal that almost made me THROW UP. I was so upset I paid and left and then rang my mother in tears. I hope you feel happy ripping people off and making it all about the money and not your return customers. Shame on you. I should not have returned their as the first night I was there it was like people were an inconvenience for them as I heard the owner complaining about people coming in late. WARNING DO NOT GO HERE IF YOUR...
