Drop by a friend's modern cafe house for dinner, not particularly for coffee because we are not coffee lover. To fill my stomach, i need rice. Hence, I got myself Char Siew Kimchi fried rice and my wife ordered Mushroom Zucchini Aglio Olio. I got attracted by the char siew and I think if my friend were to expand into running char siew kon low mee and char siew chicken rice stalls, Penangites will definitely fall for it. So far, this is the best char siew I have ever had in Penang. Just hope that next time he can put more char siew into his Char Siew Kimchi fried rice. Overall, ambience of the place is not the dim lighted hippy style cafe, it is a modern one with minimalist design concept. After dinner, we had a walk around Cold Storage market (inside Island Plaza) for some grocery stock up. The cafe served quality food and coffee, we tried the common one, latte. Update: Today I came to the place and it's no longer a quiet environment to enjoy a cuppa and cake. There was a big table of people talking loudly, kids making noise and person talking loudly using speaker phone mode on her mobile phone. Even though the shop had a sign in framed telling people to control the sound volume while inside, the shop assistants just ignored the noise and the annoyance that the rest of the customers had to endure. When I told one of the assistant, she told me that they would not comply but she never tried to tell those noisy customers, even after I appealed to her. What's the point of having the sign behind the counter and high up on the shelf? (See the photo attached). This is an insult to people who abided to the sign or expectation and came here for a quiet...
Read moreHappened to stumble upon this queit and cosy little coffeshop during my trip to Penang. Hidden gem located in Island Plaza serves one of the best if not the best coffee in Penang. Love how the coffee is made with such amazing texture and flavour which is just something very unique. Excellent ambience to go with the coffee as well. Kudos to the staff for such fantastic service. If you do go to Meraki look for Mikki, the way she brews coffee is definitely magical and the coffee she produces can prove that as well. There was also a boy who I regretfully didn't get his name who was very insightful and knowledgeable about coffee and Penang itself, provided me with lots of places to visit in Penang during my stay. Keep up the good work ! Will definitely come back again on my next...
