One of my favorite place for a hearty satisfying meal! Despite it’s been opened for quite some time already but the queue are long as always and it’s usually takes about 30-40mins wait time as the staff efficiently pass out menu to write down orders for those going to get their table soon. So please be understanding don’t chit chat chill inside with friends and family after done eating as others are going to stare knife into you 🤣
Here’s what we ate :
Chicken Herbal Soup with Rice ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Generous herbal used therefore strong aromatic soup with generous portion of rice and a big L-Shaped Chicken Leg. I personally think an egg would complete this meal to perfection!
Chicken Herbal Soup with Handmade Noodles ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Same great soup & chicken with noodles instead. They used claypot so the soup remained warm until you finished. The noodles texture is more of like Pan Mee feel.
Curry Laksa ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Thick soup with aromatic curry spices and big portions of noodles. There’s fish flakes and big taupok soaking up the goodness of the curry soup. Not for small eater.
Oriental Prawn Mee ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Despite its fiery red chili oil floating on top of the soup, it’s actually delicious with great shrimp based soup! It is equally big portion as Curry Laksa noodle.
Dry Noodle (Mala) ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Maybe I’m getting weak with spicy food already but this level of spiciness in this dish I can’t handle at all 😩 Even so, the sauce were delicious and fragrant I couldn’t really stop eating it. It’s an excellent enjoyment dish for spicy food lover.
Cendol ⭐️⭐️⭐️ It’s decent portion and yummy HOWEVER why put in such small bowl….? To look its bigger portion? It’s so hard to mix around without spilling it. Please use bigger bowl.
Double Butter Kaya Toast ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ My absolute favorite! The perfectly toasted toast with cold thin aromatic butter that just melt in your mouth and match very well with their own made kaya (You can buy their kaya home)
Mango Sago with Grass Jelly ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ We enjoyed this dessert a lot. The mango 🥭 sweet and just ripe. Overall not too sweet.
Oriental Egg Tart ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ A MUST HAVE each time we come eat. Our meal wouldn’t be complete without this! Always serve fresh and piping hot (Yes, super hot) The egg tart is THICK, thicccck with their egg custard and French butter aromatic thin crispy flaky skin. I always asked them to cut half for me so it’s easier to cool it down and eat.
Oriental Kopi Cincau Ice ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ It may sound weird, but among the coffee version I’ve tried I loved this the most! It’s surprisingly well matched. ✨
Overall they’ve proven and maintained their food quality consistency very well no matter how many times I’ve come. The table placement was pretty cramped due to small shop size and the tables aren’t big too. The air-cond almost non existent maybe due to packed people constantly the air flow weren’t that great. It’s noisy due to the excited crowd...
Read moreI had been eagerly anticipating dining at this establishment for several weeks, but the long queues always deterred me. Today, however, I finally got my chance. Unfortunately, my experience was a mixed bag.
Service: There is considerable room for improvement in this area. The waitress handed us the menu as we were almost entering the shop, giving us very little time to decide and review the options. It felt rushed, as though we were being pushed to place our order even before we had settled in. We ordered two mains and a set of the infamous egg tarts. Despite this, the waitress directed us to a table for two, which was clearly too small for our order. When I pointed this out and requested one of the three empty tables for four, she insisted we stick to the smaller table, explaining that they would serve our order in stages to accommodate the limited space. This logic seemed flawed, especially since many tables for four were occupied by only two people. It would make more sense to allocate tables based on the volume of food ordered, not strictly the number of diners.
There was also a service bell on the table, but despite pressing it over five times, no one responded. This rendered the bell pointless, likely just a gimmick.
Food: Thankfully, the food was the highlight of the visit. The egg tarts were especially outstanding, although I was disappointed that they ran out before I could order some to take away. The Nasi Lemak was delicious, as was the chicken. The curry laksa had a rich, thick gravy that I thoroughly enjoyed. The Mee Goreng Mamak, however, came with vegetables despite my request for none, as I was informed it was pre-cooked with vegetables. This was a bit of a letdown. Both the tea and coffee were decent and not overly sweet. The food quality definitely deserves five stars.
Checkout: The final part of the experience was also lacking. The cashier was engaged in conversation with colleagues, ignoring the long queue of customers waiting to pay. This behavior felt quite impolite and unprofessional.
In conclusion, while the food here is excellent, the service needs significant improvement. Better table management, more attentive service, and a more courteous checkout process would greatly enhance the overall dining experience. 5 stars...
Read moreMe and my family was happy to see something new at gurney plaza after coming back 2 yrs. The queue at dinner hour on 12 jun 25 (Thursday) was still long at 8.34pm but it was worth it, about 10 in queue in front of us and restaurant was packed full. The queue did move fast though, as usually this hour alot of ppl would have finished their dinner. We ordered Oriental chicken hor fun which was delicious, with 2 large fresh prawn and broth light but flavourful taste (after late 6 pm high tea at G Hotel Gurney). It was so great, we went back 2 more days to eat at the same restaurant. On 13th June 25 (Friday), we went back for lunch at 1.54pm slightly shorter queue, again within 5 mins wait and we were in (restaurant full again), we again ordered Oriental chicken hor fun (craving its taste again) and i ordered mee goreng lemak (requesting less spicy), it came back still with punch of chilli (shiok but slightly too spicy for me) and tea O which is again too sweet (had them watered it down to manageable sweetness, which they obliged). Decoration for restaurant was nice with large yummy food pictures. On Saturday night at 8.40pm, the queue was 15plus waited about approx. 15 mins, with my Penang friend (who had not tried the place). The waitress came to our line and handed us thick menu with order list for us to preselect. There we witness tray of egg tarts freshly baked out of oven, the wait staff cut it in half and started dishing to table (freshly baked). To our disappointment, chicken hor fun was sold out for day, we end up settled for double butter kaya toast (RM$4.90). Kaya was too sweet, but the toast bread crust was just right, crunchy all around. Our friend ordered Kampung fried rice, with egg on top and 2 large prawn. The rice tasted nice even if i just tasted one bite. However my Penang friend said it is on higher price side, since fried rice could have just be at RM$10 else where, but it cost $18.90. That said, we think back still have great memories and sedap taste of 3 visits there, that we might just try the Oriental Kopi Singapore at Bugis junction in coming days and finally also try the Egg tart which other reviewers mentioned must try....
