Staff involve : Lee Chin Loong, Trainee waitress
We go to JB DTF often. It wasn't fantastic but it's not awful either. We patronize this Penang version and it's an absolute turn off. From the moment we start to recieve the service from this Gurney outlet I immediate missed the Jb lol and rmb I said their service was just average..? basically how bad the Gurney is until I miss an average service face palm
We were at the entrance of the DTF and staff Lee Chin Loong ushered us in. There's a major difference between being efficient and rushing customer. He is giving us the latter experienced. Why the rush? Or trying to look like he's efficient (apparently he's not)?
When we send our order, this Trainee waitress attend to us and repeat/confirm our orders. She noticed that we have chosen the fried spring roll and went ahead and let us know what bank card are we using to pay as the UOB card payment will entitle free spring roll.
We do have UOB card but dont really use that card hence my father asked if HSBC card have any same promo going on. Then she told us HSBC have another promo in which we spend RM150 (before gst and service charge) will have RM15 off. We were like quite confuse n stress cuz we haven't eat already need to stress what payment card to process alrd so we just ask her send order first we settle payment later.
She came back with a reciept assuming we are paying UOB thus the "free" spring roll. We were pretty stun cuz because she want to make her job easy we got to pay using a card we never really use. But we end up trying our luck since payment is not made, we inform her we will pay by HSBC instead. Because partly we also see the spring roll worth RM 11.30 only vs discount RM15.. actually shouldn't they refer a higher discount for us especially she's aware of what card we are holding?
She acknowledged our request and change the reciept for us came back without springroll in the reciept.facepalm again Hey, why is your staff (though I know she's a trainee) making us looking like a cheapo??? I mean thank you for sharing what promo you have but you don't assume what we pay to make your life easy ok?and also we wanted spring roll in the first place but u cancel out becuz you thought we don't want to pay ???
Now for the payment, back to Lee Chin Loong. My father clarify again for the RM15 off . I heard him saying we are not qualify as our spending is not RM 180 and must be before all the taxes/service charge etc but we are only RM170++. We were disappointed with the misinformation so I question him the Trainee told us otherwise. He still can shamelessly say that's for HSBC card holder another facepalm He want to provide fast service but its flawed . Actually why is he rushing the whole time as long as he's involved he's like rushing...
Read moreI am a tourist. My bag was stolen in Din Tai Fung, which was well-known and trusted. The staff brought the basket and put it around here, so I left my bag in the basket. A man who thought he had come to eat was sitting at the next table. The man stole my bag. After eating with my children, I found out that my bag was missing and asked the staff to check the CCTV. CCTV recorded the man stealing my bag. I didn't know how and what to do, so I called my friend and she came. The staff told my friend to pay first and go to the police station. This situation was ridiculous, but I just came out because It's better to report to the police station first. I asked for the video, but Din Tai fung didn't give it to the police at the time. I never thought this would happen in Din tai fung, where believes in safety and trusts.
Is there a difference between the local street restaurant and Din Tai fung’s service for customer safety? Din Tai Fung is never a safe place, so don't leave your bag in the basket even if the staff tells you to. Din Tai Fung is not responsible for anything. Keep in mind that it's a place where you don't have the common sense to pay for food to a stolen customer and go to the police station.
Din Tai Fung only gave me a picture of a man who stole a bag from me.(my bag is in the black bag)

I refused the food you were going to offer. But why did you write that you provided food in the comment below? If you were me, would you want to eat food at the place where your bag was stolen without any compensation? Even if your friend had to pay for the food... What would you do? I followed your instructions. Because I thought this place was safe. If you didn't think this was a safe place, you shouldn't have told me to leave my bag...
Read moreGood standard of food in a nice, clean environment. Service was pretty fast, though it was very quiet when we went.
Firstly, I thought the pork xiao long bao was great - really nice flavour and went well with the accompanying sauce.
The wanton soup was also really good. The wanton pastry was nice and thin, and the meat filling tasted really fresh and clean. Seasoned just right in my opinion.
The fried rice was cooked well. The pork was very tender, but actually a little too soft for me. I’m sure others will like that, but I generally prefer my meat to be tender but with a little bite and texture still. It was so soft it reminded me a little of a processed meat like spam - not something I want when I’m eating a whole cut of real meat. The soft meat combined with the short grained rice made the dish quite heavy.
The prawns with salted egg yolk was okay. The prawns were cooked really well, not overdone at all. However, the batter could have been more crispy. The flavour was good but the thick, soft batter made the dish as a whole too rich and stodgy. I needed to dip the prawns in the xiao long bao sauce just to get some acidity from the vinegar to help cut through the richness so I could finish the plate.
The food here is quite expensive, but I do think you get a higher level of quality for your money. Whether it’s worth it or not is up to you. I will probably return at some point, but am more likely to stick to the dumplings and avoid the heavy starchier dishes like the rice and...
