My favorite and staple dining place. If you’re family over 6 I highly recommend you call to book private table room (Min. Spending Rm 300) to dine for best comfort experience as the table mostly small and quite packed together.

Tonight I eat :

Deep Fried Seafood & Chicken with Spice Chili ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Rm 31.80 (Opt out Pork) Generous portion, super crunchy, well seasoned with hint of spicy mala pepper makes this dish one of their top ten best selling dish. We finished to the last bit of crunch. A must try. 👍🏻

Sweet & Sour Chicken & Fish Fillet ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Rm 28.80 Thick, perfect balance of sour and sweetness each bite. Though personally the batter is a bit on the thicker side for me but it manages to coat more of its sauce this way.

Deep Fried Prawn with Salad Dressing ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Rm 33.80 Big portion, not overly sweet and too thick of salad dressing. Best of all, no need to peel the shell 😏

Sautéed Prawn with XO Sauce ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Rm 33.80 Same big portion, the thick creamy curry style sauce is heavenly good. ✨ I could say this is better than No. 3 personally!

Sautéed String Bean with Spicy Shrimp Paste ⭐️⭐️ Rm 21.80 Overall still taste good although the sauce too thick and oily to the point it’s not sticking much to the string bean itself. String bean has been deep fried over quickly to maintain its texture.

Spice Chili Frog ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Rm 39.80 (2 Frog = Small, I get 3 Frog = Medium) My most favorite dish. Consistent delicious despite having it many times. ✨ A MUST try for mala lover! I’m average in taking spicy so normal spicy level is tolerable yet still enjoyable. There’s fries, white cabbages and onions that stir fry in full wok hei mala flavour along with the perfectly timing cooked frogs. The sauce itself goes so well with their chewy white rice, very appetizing!

Deep Fried Bean Curd with Salted Egg Yolk ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Rm 19.80 Generous portion to the point I’m checking am I ordering small size 🤣 Their bean curd cube is bigger than what I’ve ate at other restaurants. Smooth and soft inside, perfectly crispy with salted egg yolk fragrant yet not oily on the outside. 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻

Braised Broccoli with Crabmeat ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Rm 25.80 Perfect thick aromatic crabmeat and egg sauce. Broccoli not overly cooked still retain bit of it crunchiness yet not too hard on its stem. I strongly advise you enjoy this dish first along with tofu and avoid touching spicy dish at least until half of this dish is gone. Mainly the mala dish will make your tongue numb and feel this dish end up more bland than you first taste at the end.

Sautéed Choy Sum and Braised Pork with Preserved Vegetables ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Rm 26.80 Well seasoned and vegetables remained crunchy texture 👍🏻

Mapo Tofu Braised Bean Curd with Spicy Fermented Bean Paste ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Rm 22.80 I loved how they deep fried the tofu first to prevent easily broken and enable the sauce to coat the tofu much better! It’s so delicious to go with rice!

Braised Sharkfin Soup ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Rm 27.80 It is a big small bowl of soup but it’s full of ingredients and flavorful!

Stewed Chicken with Bitter Gourd and Tau Si ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Rm 28.80 This dish truly brings out the aroma and flavor of tau si brilliantly! A must a try for Tau Si lover! The chicken meat not overcooked and well infused with the sauce as well.

Overall this place maintained their quality and taste consistently over the few times I’ve visited. There’s 10% service charge and 6% SST as well. The wet tissue can return when paying to deduct the price if you...

It's not common for me to leave a negative review, but this is one of the places that I have to leave one.

Good food plagued by poorly trained and disdained staff, horrendous service etiquette.

My family was the only other table which was in the restaurant, we placed our orders and waited for 30 minutes. Another family arrived about 5 minutes after we did, but they got their food first.

When I confronted the staff, I was informed that there was a system issue, and my food order was not sent to the kitchen. The staff was unprofessional and kept insisting that it was a system fault, and showed no form of remorse. What kind of service crew doesn't realize that a later table has received all their food, whilst the table before is still awaiting theirs.

The worse part is that I had to personally confront the staff to ask about my food, it was only THEN they realised the food did not get through. If I had continued to sit and wait, I doubt that they would have noticed.

I am utterly disappointed at the level of service provided at this price point. Even when settling my bill, I received an "apology" by what I would assume is the manager on duty, but yet again, the blame was shifted to the "system error" and the apology was insincere, despite my explanation that the staff should be better equipped to observe their table service and surroundings. There was at most 3 tables which were occupied during my visit, and they could not manage the orders appropriately.

The food is pretty well cooked, unfortunately plagued by poorly trained service staff who is clearly better suited at a non-service orientated job.

I'd recommend being cautious when patronising this establishment and to ensure that "you double confirm" that your order has indeed been sent to the kitchen, else you'd be slapped with a "system issue" and an unnapologetic apology. Though we did enjoy the dishes, we would not be visiting again given the non-chalant and disappointing wait time...

I have already lodged a complaint against this very irresponsible restaurant. I placed a Grab pick-up order on 21 December 2021 in the morning. Firstly, the restaurant name is different from what appears on Grab app (it was named The Eight Restaurant 八号饭店 - E-Gate on Grab app) and the restaurant didn’t bother to put up a sign board anywhere. Then when I entered the restaurant the staffs pretended like they didn’t see me (three people were seen gathering around the cashier counter). I approached one of the staffs and he told me that my food was not ready yet (even though it’s already way pass 30 minutes since I placed my order, and Grab app also told me that my order was ready). I patiently waited for another 30 minutes and finally one of the staffs came out to tell me to cancel my order because they were not able to fulfil it. But I couldn’t cancel the order because Grab app didn’t allow me to do so. The staff himself also said he couldn’t cancel the order from his side and asked me to swipe “Order Collected”. I decided to refer to the help center on Grab app but there’s no such option. So I was forced to swipe “Order Collected” and Grab charged me the amount. I asked Grab to refund the amount to me and take action against this irresponsible merchant. I waited for one hour plus just to return empty handed and some more I had to pay for the food I never received. I also saw there were other people waiting for their order as well (I am not sure if their order ended up the same like mine). The staffs were not helpful and most of the time they pretended like they didn’t see me, although there wasn’t many customers around (I saw many empty chairs). That was the first time I order anything from this restaurant and they gave me a very bad...

Visited this place just to verify the reviews were true. Indeed 101% true! This place suxs big time Our orders were sent to the kitchen at 720pm. Ordered 5 tems. 1 fried rice, 1 fish, 1 shark fin soup, 1 la mien and 1 hot milk tea. We were told waiting time 30 Mins.. in a shocked but waited anyway. Drinks came after 5 mins. Wow.. impressed. After that.. nothing came until 8pm. My miserable shark fin soup. Wonder what took them so long just to serve me the soup. 40 mins for a soup. Hubs and me decided not to wait any longer. Headed to the counter. Upon getting up from our seats.. the fish dish came at 8.15pm. We told the Chinese guy.. (don't know If he is the boss/supervisor) we wish to cancel and pay for 2 items. We sat there for 1 hour waited for nothing and had this miserable shark fins soup. What a spoiler to our dinner? The kitchen was a mess! Working very slow. Having a big nightmare Busy people walking in and out of the kitchen but ended up those dishes weren't ours. Guess other tables waited long too for their meals. Note: only go if you have lots of time to spare. And for your info.. to those who rated them 4 to 5 stars stating how fast was their service.. ahem. Take my case Into consideration. My fish came but I told them to cancel. So whoever in line ordered the same fish dish.. yeah.. think about it if u r getting the freshly cooked fish or fish tat had been served to other customers--kept--served later. This place definitely works slow and has thr worse service ever. 1 hour for a soup shows the workers aren't capable of handling big crowds! Not recommended.

I had zero expectations coming to this place as I did not check prior reviews. I had only seen the crowds when it first opened, and thought to myself that I would eventually try to dine here once the initial fanfare subsided. First impression upon opening the door was pleasant as they had gone with a convenience store/Chinese medical hall look with dried chillies and wooden signs hanging from the ceiling, and a large spice rack on one of the walls. The cushion on the chairs do need some deep cleaning as most of them have a lot of unidentifiable stains on them. The flavors of the food we ordered were all very good, and I would say that they are all seasoned with the expectation that one would accompany them with white rice. We had ordered their specialty fried rice, which was already flavorful, and with that oversight, had to go through a flavor overdose experience. Just something to keep in mind for future visits. The pork dish was sweet, sticky and savory, the salted egg fried tofu was delightful with a strong salted egg punch, and the stir-fried French beans with minced meat was perfectly executed where the wok was hot enough to sear the skin (removes the squeaky balloon animal sounds while chewing) while keeping the insides soft and tender. The small welcome drinks were a nice touch as well. I will most likely do a repeat visit in the future after my taste buds have had a chance to recalibrate to regular food, and I will order white rice this time. Also, they are the first place I've seen in Penang to have pigeons on the menu. Maybe pigeons too next time.
