Review of Whatsaeb Boat Noodles, Penang
Whatsaeb Boat Noodles in Penang is a hidden gem that delivers an unforgettable Thai dining experience. If you're a fan of authentic boat noodles, this place will exceed your expectations with its vibrant flavors and cozy, welcoming atmosphere.
Food: The star attraction at Whatsaeb is undoubtedly the boat noodles. These flavorful, aromatic bowls of noodles are packed with rich, savory broth and the perfect balance of spices. The broth is perfectly spiced—not too heavy, but full of depth, and the noodles themselves are just the right texture. For those who prefer something milder, the Pad Thai is equally impressive—tangy, sweet, and balanced with just the right amount of crunch from the peanuts. And don't forget to try the Thai Iced Tea to complement your meal—it's refreshing and sweet, a perfect match for the spicy dishes
Service: The service at Whatsaeb Boat Noodles is friendly and efficient. The staff are knowledgeable and always willing to help with menu choices, making the dining experience more enjoyable. The dishes arrive quickly, allowing you to savor every bite without feeling rushed. Even though the restaurant can get busy at times, the staff manage to maintain a welcoming and relaxed atmosphere.
Ambience: The ambiance is casual and cozy, with a clean and bright interior that makes you feel at ease as soon as you walk in. Traditional Thai elements are incorporated into the decor, which adds a touch of authenticity to the overall experience. It’s the kind of place that feels comfortable for both quick meals or longer, more relaxed dining with friends or family.
Value: Whatsaeb offers excellent value for money. The portion sizes are generous, and the quality of the food—fresh ingredients, bold flavors, and well-balanced dishes—makes every bite worth it. For the prices, you definitely get a great dining experience that satisfies both your taste buds and your wallet.
Overall: Whatsaeb Boat Noodles in Penang is a must-visit for anyone craving delicious, authentic Thai food. With its standout boat noodles, delicious sides, and warm service, this restaurant provides an exceptional dining experience that’s hard to beat. Whether you're a local or just passing through, it’s the perfect spot to indulge in rich Thai flavors....
Read moreWhile I may not agree with some of Michelin suggestions in penang, this is different. I fully agree with the Michelin suggestion for this joint. Their food is delicious. The only issue I have is the menu pictures. Even though the menu is nicely arranged, the pictures are of ridiculously low resolution. You can't actually appreciate what they are trying to show. In all honesty, they should consider not putting photos rather putting a photo which is so blur that you can't actually appreciate what it's trying to represent.
Now that I have gotten that off my chest, coming to the food, both the noodles I ordered are incredibly yummy. I must recommend that you try their boat noodle. Please order one and one only. Throw away the misconception that boat noodles come in small portions and you need to order a few and stack them in a nice bowl tower. Their portion is generous. You should be full with a bowl. The dark heavily flavoured soup is one of the best I have tasted. In addition to dark sauce and herbs, there's an element of haemoglobin in it. It's not excessive but you can definitely taste the iron in it and that makes the dish special and unique. If you are wondering which is better, the pork is the better version compared to the chicken version. By far. No competition.
The seafood soup noodle however is a bit different. It's sour with a little sweetness in it. The spice is not immediately noticeable but beware of its slow burn character. In a few minutes, the spice should increase in crescendo and you will be quite surprised at the heat thereafter. Just be aware and plan adequately. Haha.
If you are looking for a non spicy dish, please order the crab fried rice. It's simply superb. You get a generous amount of chunky crab meat and the fried rice has a hint of wok hei and incredible flavours. The only way it could be better would be a bit more wok hei.
As for the drinks, please order the sticky rice smoothie. The glutinous sweet rice aroma and the lingering taste on the tongue is simply a superb concoction that you must try to believe. Anyhow, if you haven't tried dining here, do try to come and have a taste. I am sure you won't be disappointed. It's definitely a place I would...
Read moreTHIS ISN'T AUTHENTIC THAI ANYMORE! HORRIBLE! .It used to be my favorite thai boat noodle back to few months ago. (Go check the photos in the Google review few months ago, the color of the noodle soup was different!)
I ordered delivery using grab. We ordered two bowls of PORK boat noodles, however, it arrived with chicken drumstick noodle soup. Thus, the color of the soup is totally NOT the color it used to be. This one is very dark in color. (And it taste with lots of MSG because i feel my mouth is dry and thirsty afterwards; it used to be NO MSG and i didn't feel thirsty or any side effect even finsihing all the soup). The chicken is not the correct flavor neither which is like Taiwanese herbal braised flavor chicken in herbal soup. ☹️😒😠 The meatball in the soup also not a pork meatball, but taste like fishball instead. The pork skewer used to be using belly pork thick slices. The one we get now is a minced pork patty skewer🙄😠😡😤.
THESE TOTALLY ARE NOT THE FOOD WE WANT TO ORDER!!!!!! PLEASE CLOSE THE STORE DOWN IF YOU CANNOT MAINTAIN THE AUTHENTIC THAI QUALITY AND I DON'T FREAKING WANT TO EAT HALAL THAI!!!!
SORRY TO SAY THAT THIS WILL BE MY LAST ORDER FROM THIS RESTAURANT.
P.S. one of the bugs on grab food delivery is that the seller rarely contact us for unavailability of food and just send us whatever they want for substitute because the refund process is very...
