One of my besties has been encouraging us to visit The Sugar Tang lately. Knowing our dining habits, styles, and tastes, it’s quite challenging for them to convince us most of the time. It’s facts, and undeniable facts too 🤣

We were impressed with the coziness of the outlet, especially their air conditioning, it’s so comfortable with FOUR LARGE air conditioners plus a small unit functioning well.

Unlikely, you have the opportunity to sweat in the outlet, bring a jacket 🧥 for those who hate COLD 🥶 ambience 🤭

I personally give credit to the owner and operator of the cafe for their BRAINS 🧠/ OTAK.

Their smart and intelligence mindset made them successful and fly high in a very competitive business.

They used the cheapest ingredients to create the meals, more towards JAPANESE FUSION STYLE

The meals were acceptable, but there’s nothing to shout about, they are very clever using FANCY PRESENTATION PLATES - forming an ATAS illusion for diners. That’s where they earn the credit from me.

Not even their fancy desserts stand as an opportunity for us to go near again. Paying 15 rm for the tiny, cheapest ingredients they used to bake the cakes, we would rather spend 18 rm for a better one in Le Petit Four

Furthermore, it’s EXPENSIVE and not worth it for us to spend and dine in such a venue. We are able to get better meals WITH QUALITY for the amount we are paying.

It is very RARE and SELDOM for everyone to hear 👂 EXPENSIVE from my mouth. In Penang Island, when I say expensive and my lambast carries weight, knowing the spending habits and manners when we dine.

Will I visit again ? Certainly not, as they are UNABLE to convince and impress me to spend without looking at the figures.

Best wishes to them 😊

Came here on a weekday evening 7pm for dinner. It seems some of the staff can't speak proper English. While explaining the menu, one female Indian staff sounded like she was speaking a different language and another staff had to step in. I asked where the bathroom was and got directed to a toilet a few shops away where you had to climb up a steep flight of stairs and reached what looked like a messy abandoned area. A cafe staff was using it before me and she left the toilet in a wet dirty disgusting state. There was stuff on the toilet seat which I had to clean before I could use it.

I ordered their Original omu curry chicken rice and a drink- the Mango sticky rise. They serve free drinking water. The curry rice looked nice and i loved the texture of the egg- done perfectly. However it was way too sweet for me and I couldn't finish it in the end. The chicken was very crispy but it seemed more batter than actual meat. The highlight for me was the drink. I could taste the delicate balance of a slight hint of mango (not overly sweet) and the roasted green tea. Absolutely delicious. The atmosphere of the cafe was OK- it was nicely quiet but that was because it was almost empty.

The owner asked me for feedback at checkout and I told her the above. Honestly while I like their drinks, I'm not sure I'll return as their toilet (both the location and condition) gave me a terrible impression...

Ermm. Not bad I would say. The salted egg curry don taste good. The fried chicken in the don is crispy outside and soft inside. Damn! But the garlic mayo karaage is not nice. The mayo itself is salty and the fried chicken is also salty and the whole thing is just damn salty with a bit of sour. Ermmm, a bit unpleasant. The sauce and the chicken is just doesn't match and add up. 😂

The unagi don is 4/5, the fried egg is good but the unagi decent. As of the rice, a bit tasteless la. Would be better if could give extra sauce on the rice. As I believe unagi lover should like more sauce on the rice. At least I do. 😂 Mentako gyōza and soft shell crab maki are also just decent. Better to order other foods and desserts to try.

The drunken tiramisu is a must. If you haven't try then please do. It's really nice. Not too sweet and somehow have the taste of rum. Rose lychee cake is decent.

One more point to add, the foods here are a little bit pricey if you would compare with other cafe. As the portion is not really big also. But the taste is good la. The service is good too, waitress and cashier are friendly to me. Hahahaha. So I'll just...
