Came to Fang Yuan Kopitiam on a Saturday morning and found the area rather empty.
They offer both indoor and outdoor dining; the indoor area is air-conditioned, while the outdoor has a portable air conditioner. The kopitiam's interior design is very nostalgic and impeccably clean and tidy. Here’s what we had:
🧋 Three-Layered Milk Tea (3.5/5 🌟): The iconic brown layers, with brown sugar at the bottom, milk in the middle, and tea on top, are visually appealing. However, I found the tea flavour a bit too light for my taste. I prefer a stronger tea aroma to complement the sweetness and creaminess. The palm sugar adds a milky sweetness when stirred.
☕ Fang Yuan Iced Coffee (4/5 🌟): At RM4.50, this iced coffee is excellent value. The coffee beans are robustly roasted, and the sweetness is just right (I asked for less sugar). A great pick-me-up with a good size and aroma.
🥚 Soft Boiled Eggs (5/5 🌟): These are perfect soft-boiled eggs. The entire egg, including the yolk, slides out effortlessly. The texture and freshness of the yolk are exceptional. We ordered 3 eggs each, and it was totally worth it.
🍞 Kaya Butter Toast (4/5 🌟): The bread is lightly toasted, airy, and crispy. The kaya is thinly spread, and the butter is arranged in cute "train tracks." I enjoyed the light, crispy texture, but would prefer a thicker slice of bread with more kaya.
🍝 Fried Mee Siam with Otak (3/5 🌟): This is a basic Malaysian breakfast noodle dish with rice vermicelli stir-fried in aromatic sambal chilli paste. The calamansi adds a tangy kick. While not exceptional, the otak was surprisingly good. It would be better with a larger portion.
🫓 Chicken Curry with Chapati (3/5 🌟) The chapati is likely store-bought, but it's still quite good. The curry is watery but flavorful, with a generous amount of sauce. The tender chicken drumstick is a nice addition.
The kopitiam offers a wide variety of dishes. While I loved the soft-boiled eggs, I'm keen to try other items on the menu during...
Read moreFang Yuan seems to be a popular place. The mrnu items range from breakfast items like toast, half-boiled eggs, steamed bread to one-dish meals like nasi lemak, noodles, sweet and sour pork rice etc. The prices are similar to the new style kopitiams ranging from below RM10 to below RM20 but pricier than the old style coffee shops with stalls inside. On the whole the food is ok and the kopitiam style coffee is quite good. The much lauded rendang chicken for the nasi lemak is so-so, having too-sweet gravy and the single piece served has little meat. The nasi lemak rice is quite fragrant and the chilli/sambal not too bad.
The white bread toast is rather small in size and the taste of kaya and butter/margarine indistinct. The half boiled eggs are quite good....
Read moreI recently tried the Meesiam with Fried Chicken at 芳源白咖啡, and it was a delightful experience! The meesiam was perfectly tangy and flavorful, with a wonderful balance of spices. The fried chicken was crispy on the outside, juicy on the inside, and complemented the meesiam beautifully. The portion size was generous, and the presentation was inviting. The service was friendly and efficient, making the whole dining experience enjoyable. I highly recommend this dish for anyone looking to enjoy a delicious and...
