Haiiro Usagi — Restaurant in Johor

In recent years, Speakeasy bars had sprung up in the various parts of Johor Bahru. I decided to visit one of them, Haiiro Usagi located in the city centre.

An online reservation is required via the bar’s WhatsApp Business Account. It should be made no more than seven days of your visit. Do also note that your reservation will only be held for 15 mins. Upon arrival at the doorstep, give them a call and the staff shall unlock the door to the bar.

During my visit on a Friday night, there was a guest shift, whereby Italian Mixologist Mattia Coppo was in the house. Hence, there were only four bespoke alcoholic beverages available for the night. I ordered the Lavorato Chiaro which comprised of Cocchi Americano Bianco (Vermouth), Gentiana Terra Del Briganti (White Wine-Based Liqueur), Gajardo Bitter (Bitter Liqueur) and Soda. The drink costs RM50+.

The staff was polite and attentive, who took care to explain the aromas and flavours of the beverages in the menu to me.

The bathroom reminded me of a club experience as it offered many amenities such as hand towel and cotton buds.

Thank you so much for the exceptional hospitality extended during our visit on a Friday evening! We were taken aback by the extensive drinks menu which were categorized according to its taste profile. The categorization made it easier to browse according to our preferences. The staff also told us insightful information, for instance when a drink we were intending to order was more on a lighter taste palette etc.

The staff on shift were also really helpful and thoughtful. We had a cake bought to surprise a friend of ours and even though part of the rules stated no outside food and drinks, they still accommodated to our requests. Furthermore, provided cutlery for us to consume the cake bought and birthday shots to commemorate this special occasion.

With the emphasis of having to make a reservation prior to dropping by, it gave the place a sense of exclusivity and privacy where everyone can busk in the chilled atmosphere. Hot towels were also offered to freshen up, alongside tidbits for us to munch on. Would definitely come back again in the future! Once again, thank you for making my first visit an amazing one.

Overall, the place comes across as really well thought out. From the layout, drinks available, bits of information in the menu and even an option to select a random drink option from a capsule machine if you don’t know what you want to drink.

Drink menu is rather extensive. Covering the usual types of cocktails. Nothing too fancy or weird, that you might get at some places these days. Had 3 drinks - 2 cocktails and a double shot of whiskey. Cocktails were good and well made. Only gripe might be that with the size of the glass and the ice cube, there isn’t much room left for the drink itself. But.. the drinks are expensive. (On Average about RM40).

Service is top notch - with the staff friendly, polite and attentive.

Was my first ‘Speak Easy’ experience in JB and I was pleasantly surprised. Will definately be back.
