Nestled along taman maju, in quite an active part of jb, lies restaurant Soon Ching, selling Bak Kut Teh, or pork bone soup. The restaurant is easy to find, with a prominent sign along the road. Parking can be crowded, but there are lots along the whole stretch of road. Would recommend to go on off peak. We went at 8.30 am on a Saturday and the restaurant was empty. Service, unsurprisingly, was extremely prompt. Price for a bowl ranges from 10-14 RM. Pros: Food is not half bad. The signature pork bone soup is tasty, and goes well with rice. The restaurant also sells home made barley, which washes the soup down well. Cons: The soup comes in bowls that are small, and we were limited to only 1 extra refill per bowl of soup ordered. It is a shame, as the soup is the main selling point. We were left with a lot of rice and not enough soup. Summary: Tasty food, but a bit expensive and limited. Would recommend for a taste test, but probably not as a weekly staple.

Very old school bak kut teh. The herbal soup was lovely. Had the spare ribs, pig stomach and pork belly. All good. They were served in their respective sauce/soup. Pig stomach was served in a peppery soup which reminded me of SG's bkt only lighter flavours. Pork belly was in a braised saucy soup. Meat were tender and good. The warm homemade barley was a great ending to the meal. Perfect, not sweet. Love it, will return.

When i saw the color of the soup i thought the herbal taste will be v gao. But it’s normal only. I guess they just added more dark soy sauce to thicken the soup and make it darker. I had the spare ribs bowl (Rm17) which comes with 4 pieces. The meat weren’t exactly tender and it tasted a little tough to me.. Overall i think there’s more room for improvement. I had way better ones than this.
