Relatively new shop serving seafood soup modelled after a famous eatery with the same concept. Unfortunately I felt that it fell short of expectations. Overall was quite pricey like one fishcake for 10.80. Had the milky soup with mixed fried fish head for 23.80. The fried fish head was more like fried bones and very little meat. I have had fish head before but this was mostly fish bones coated with flour and with no meat. For the price it was not worth it. The milk broth was also way too milky. The consistency was like thick coconut milk. Unlike the more famous place where u can taste the huadiao wine, shallots and coriander. This one was not as flavourful. There were also houseflies flying about despite it being airconditioned, which was quite annoying. Worse was when they were serving us the food, a piece of fried fish fell on the table. The staff used a piece of tissue to pick it up to put it back on the plate to serve us. This is basic hygiene and staff should be properly trained. If they can do this in front of u then I dread to think what happens when we...
Read moreMy first visit to the newly opened Sek Wai Sin Restaurant Pelangi. It’s basically a seafood restaurant focusing on wild caught reef fish from Pontian and Sabah. The fish arrives chilled. The menu is simple with a good format for choosing the dishes. The signature dish is a mixture of seafood (flower crab, prawn, baby oyster, clams) with choice of 3 soups. I enjoyed the flower crab which was fresh and succulent. The prawn was sweet. The Wild Spotted Coral Red Grouper sliced fish soup came in decent chunks in a natural clear seafood broth. The restaurant is clean and well-lit with clean toilets. The dishes are reasonably priced, a good value meal. It’s also located next door to one of the best family massage place called Signature...
Read moreRandomly chanced upon this eatery the other time I was in Pelangi. I was initially attracted by their signage and found out more on social media about this place. Turns out this place serves Pontian Seafood dishes. Just happen that we patronised the massage shop next door, we decided to come by here for lunch. We were there around 2.30pm.
The staff were friendly and helpful. Since it was our first time here, she assisted with the food recommendation. Food was not bad. The seafood was fresh, the mee pok was nicely cooked but a lil salty. The fried fish fillet was good and was well received by us.
Overall, food was decent but price on the high side. Staff were friendly and definitely felt welcomed. The ambience of the eatery...
