Osaka Japanese cuisine 大阪城日本料理 — Restaurant in Johor

First time trying after reading reviews on google. Can’t understand why there’s so many positive reviews or I’m just super unlucky to have come at the wrong time. Arrived on 8.10pm with wifey and decided to try different dishes as we always had at Japanese restaurants. Ordered tai sashimi, 3 skewers, 2 appetizers and a chawamushi with beer for a start to go slow before ordering more as we want to sample different dishes. How wrong was I. Sashimi came within 10minutes which is okay. After that waited for 20mins but nothing came. Asked server about my order but was informed kitchen was shorthanded., (there’s actually 4-5 staffs in the kitchen including sashimi chef) brought out a appetizer 5mins later , chawamushi another 10mins later and then 3 skewers after waiting for 45-50mins in total. By this time , already regretted coming over to try out this place. Last appetizer didn’t even come after almost an hour. Worst still , Yakitori was not cooked well and I can taste raw meat when I took a bite.! (See picture) Informed staff and she seems more busy on serving other customers than to handle it professionally. A quick sorry and asked I want to have the kitchen redo.? Seriously?? Expect me to wait another 45mins for a skewer? I declined and decided enough is enough. Got up and paid my bill at the counter, asked if there’s a manager on site and cashier replied yes. Wanted to speak to him or her but the staff seems more eager to see me leave than answering my concerns. Paid $120 for the above and ended up having Lok Lok next door for a much more fulfilling meal at less than half the price. Truly...

When the cravings hit, you just got to have it and Osaka Japanese cuisine hits the sweet spot for me whenever I come into JB in search of good quality, reasonably priced Japanese food. It is a very unassuming establishment with their front doors blacked out to create a cozy, intimate late night Izakaya vibe.

As a creature of habit, I usually come during the quiet lunch hour (after my monthly haircut), which I really enjoy as I spend some time with myself. Unaccompanied, I almost always order the tempura soba set with a side of their salmon sashimi. Everything is so fresh and well cooked compared to other more popular Japanese restaurants around JB that I’ve gone to.

Other than the food, a huge highlight for me is the impeccable service. All the servers are attentive, approachable and efficient. Everyone is polite and you really don’t have to wait very long for the food to arrive.

Ordered a tendon set. About rm40 aft 10% svc charge. The tendon is good. The pieces batter stick well to the ingredients. The sauce is good too. Would be good if there are some sauce also applied on the bowl before placing in the rice, so rice will also have sauce.

The set comes with a chawamushi, some shredded veg, and a bowl of sliced guava(top left). Surprisingly the sliced guava is good. water is free.

The environment is rather chill and spacious. Seats are comfortable. Air is fresh.

Toilet is also clean, But the soap used leaves a distinct scent on your hands. This might affect the food experience later especially if you eating raw food.
