We were looking around Austin for a place to eat after leaving another with no available seat for my baby. We stumbled upon Matjib and did a quick research online to see the reviews. Thankfully the reviews were great and decided to give it a try.
The food on the menu looks amazing and when our food came..we cant wait to dig into it becos it looks just as appetising! We ordered the set for 2-3 pax (grilled pork+bbq seasoned soy pork+grilled chicken with sizzling cheese in the centre), pork hangover soup, and traditional rice cake.
The soup was a mix of flavours that excites the taste buds and u just keep wanting more and more. If ur a fan of flavours pls go for it. Next is the bbq pork and chicken..dip it into the sizzling cheese or wrap it around the meat it's up to ur liking but either way just work perfectly. The rice cake here looks different from the usual fatter ones. Theirs is thinner yet chewy, together with the sweet and little spicy gravy. Very balanced taste.
Food aside, the staffs there were very friendly and helpful. The guy waitress patiently waited for us to choose our seats and promptly brought a baby chair to us, unlike the previous shop we went. The lady waitress approached us for recommendations when we were looking thru the menu. The kind and nice oppa a.k.a the boss there even helped to shift my baby in the baby chair when they served the hot food over.
Overall it was a great time there enjoying the food and we were thankful that we didnt dine in at the previous shop or else we wouldn't have found this gem. Lastly, go for the free lime ice cream! (other flavours is just normal but the lime one is the bomb!)

Read moreWe chance upon this amazing restaurant after we were put off by Jeju Korean BBQ who totally ignored us after we were shown a table. The staff were extremely welcoming even before we entered the shop. We were only browsing their menu when the staff extended his hospitality without giving us any pleasure to dine in. He simply recommendedus what was popular in their shop and waited patiently for us to decide. They gave us space to decide on what we like and we were attended to immediately when we signalled we were ready to order. The BBQ were simply heavenly and we had to order additional portions. The bibimbap was also lovely. Generous variety of side dishes. The only thing not so good was the cold noodles. It would taste better and more refreshing if it had been colder. This is the only dish we felt that needed improvement. Overall, we had such a great experience and will certainly come back for more. We will highly recommend if you are willing to pay. It is indeed more pricey than other Korean...
Read moreStumbled upon this restaurant as we were actually planning to head to another Korean BBQ down the road. We were told fully booked and they gave us a seat where we couldn't put a baby chair for my baby. So we left and found MatJib.
Probably one of the best choice we made out of ad hoc. The food was really better than we expected and also surely better than the "fully booked" Korean BBQ down the street.
We ordered the meat combo and it came with cheese to go with. We also had very well balanced spicy rice cakes and hangover soup (spicy pork bone soup & potatoes).
So we definitely would come back again. Don't be fooled by the appearance or seemingly not "fully booked". Perhaps not many appreciate better Korean food as it may seem they are all the same.
It's the smaller details in the taste, quality and texture that separates the cheap "fully booked" and competitively priced proper Korean Food.
Don't forget your free ice-cream...
