Guoma Steamboat Buffet (Mt Austin Outlet) — Restaurant in Johor

Since there is Haidilao I haven't been looking for other types of hotpot around the area. But then I heard Guoma hotpot has free flow meat so I decided to check it out.

Obviously it's a popular eatery among the locals and it's recommended to make a reservation in advance. We were walk-ins and we had to wait for about 30-45 minutes before we were seated. You could choose two soup bases. It was quite diluted. The two most popular soup bases were pork soup and herbal chicken. Soup refills were self serviced, the liquid has a translucent white colour. Unsure of what "soup" it is but it doesn't enhance the broth by thickening it.

Picking your own ingredients is pretty much self-service from there on, the stuff refilled every item pretty quickly and you can get about almost anything from the counter. From fresh vegetables, tofu(skin), fishcakes from the fridge and frozen seafood and sliced meat from the freezer. They had my favourite cuttlefish and some interesting shellfishes too. And a myriad of fishballs/ fish cakes. I had to say though the quality of the meat was not very good, it was not very tender and it was all frozen. The experience was not very pleasant. Veggies were very fresh though!

They seem to be very well known for providing steamed rice with braised minced pork, it was really addictive and tasty. Highly recommended.

They have a make your own dipping sauce section as well.

They provided both Chinese style cold and hot desserts such as grass jelly and beancurd. They tasted a little off, so the ice cream would be a better option. The most popular flavor was the mint chocolate chip, which I find most agreeable. Oh and they serve fruits too.

Food is good but the staff must know how to communicate with their customer. Already booking for 7pm but reach there staff tell us need to wait 10 minutes more still dont have seat for us. At last we until 7.40pm finally have the seat because the staff tell us the seat for us still have customer must wait them leave. Booking 7pm reach there still need to wait until 7.40pm if like that why us need to booking?! The staff should know if at peak hour and have customer wait at outside they should give notification to customer and tell them their eating time will ended soon please finished their food. Because the table inside already have label that in peak hour the eating time only have 2 hours. I think give notification to customer...

Great selection of ingredients and great service in topping up soup (self service but they top up kettle of soup base very often).

The facility are good, Toliet are clean and price is inclusive of drinks and dessert.

For soup base we choose pumpkin and herbal soup. Nice combi.

My only complain is the condiment, lack of the peanut paste that make the base of the condiment, making the condiments very tasteless despise having all the other condiments like cut chilli, vinegar, chopped onion etc.

Definately a steal at this price!...
