Ahmad Foo is what happens when Chinese food decides to extend its holiday in Malaysia. Itās a halal Chinese spot that wears its influence proudly on its sleeve ā Chinese tables, Chinese plates, and a calendar just like grandmotherās ā all straight from the hawker stall. It feels casual, the place is clean, and thereās almost always parking. You order at the counter, pay upfront, and the food arrives pretty quickly.
The main draws here are the Hainanese-style chicken and duck rice, which leans more into Malay flavour profiles. The chicken is tender, the rice fragrant with herbs, and the sauce on the thicker, punchier side. The duck is soft, rich, and saucy, but not always consistent. Some swear by it; others think itās just alright. They serve it on a hotplate too, which is a fun twist, though a few diners werenāt thrilled to find the āspecialā was mostly bone.
The soup deserves some credit ā clear but flavourful, with a strong herbal backbone. Great with the kuey teow th'ng, which is light, comforting, and a bit of a sleeper hit. Cendol here gets a lot of love. Not too sweet, nice texture, a solid way to end the meal.
Prices are fair. Not dirt cheap, but RM15+ for a good portion of chicken or duck rice still feels reasonable for city food. Sides like vegetables or tofu add a bit more to the bill, but nothing too painful.
Service is a mixed bag ā mostly friendly, sometimes indifferent. Itās a self-service setup, so donāt expect to be fussed over. Some had issues with staff attitude; others were met with big smiles and solid food recommendations.
Just donāt expect fireworks. Expect rice, duck, and a...

We ordered the Wonder Duck Set (if Iām not mistaken), it was served in a hotplace pair with omelettes under the juicy duck. The set comes with super fragrant ginger rice (rice portion quite small), chillis (that taste the same like chicken rice shop chillis?!) and THE SOUP. The soup is so nice siaa! Itās fragrant and perfectly seasoned with herbal taste.
The Duck Koey Teow Thng Special that we ordered came with a huge bowl of the same soup and two pieces of duck drumsticks and lotsa koey teow noodles. Super comforting meal and they gave the chili soy sauce to pair with it.
The Koey Chap Duck is quite nice, but itās kinda not to my liking as it is more onto sweeter side because of the soy sauce broth.
Iāll give an overall a solid 10/10! Good service, good food, good...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreThe food here taste wise is so good and the portion was large. We ordered the quarter hainanese chicken rice set & the teochew duck special and 1 teh tarik. The total was around RM34 if I'm not mistaken. It was worth every cent. The food quality was superb.
I love the presentation of the food with their plates and plating. Love the extra details like the ginger paste on top of the chicken and marinated sauce from the chicken. The marinated sauce was so good, it wasn't enough. Please put extra. Even the soup was flavourful. Would definitely come here again and again. The only downside is that it's a bit hot, everything else was...
