Kafe Moara — Restaurant in Kedah

It's our first time here. Haven't been to this part of Alor Setar since my school years a very long time ago. The place is a corner house converted into a cafe. Spacious eating areas both inside and outside the place. Very well decorated with minimalist design characterised by simplicity, clean lines, and a monochromatic palette which combines an open floor plan, lots of light, and functional furniture.

They take orders at the cashier before we get to be seated. We arrived at about 11.30, so i figure out we could try one of the big breakfast menu and the rice bowl. After going through the menu and deciding on our orders, then only the server informed us that the unavailability of some items on the menu. No big breakfast, no rice bowl. That was a little disappointing. Especially when the cashier was actually standing right in front of us - looking at us going through the menu. It would be a very nice gesture if you could at least inform us beforehand what's available and what's not.

Moara Cafe is an absolute gem in Alor Setar! From the moment I walked in, I was impressed by the warm and inviting ambiance. The decor is modern yet cozy, with a minimalist touch that makes it perfect for both casual meetups and quiet solo visits. The outdoor seating area, especially in the evening, adds a nice relaxing vibe with beautiful lighting.

Now, let’s talk about the food—the Alfredo Spaghetti with Grilled Beef was simply outstanding! The sauce was rich and creamy, and the beef was grilled to perfection—tender and flavorful. Easily one of the best pasta dishes I’ve had in a long time. Pairing that with their mocha was the perfect choice! The coffee was smooth, with just the right balance of chocolate and espresso, making it a delightful treat.

The staff were friendly and attentive, and the overall service was great. Whether you’re here for a good meal, coffee, or just a nice place to unwind, Moara Cafe delivers on all fronts. Can’t wait to come back and try more...

Moara: A Stunning View, A Disappointing Dine

The picturesque landscape and inviting ambiance are undeniable. However, the dining experience itself is a mixed bag. The coffee, a staple for many, was lackluster. A mediocre latte, easily surpassed by convenience store offerings, was a disappointing start. The pizza, a culinary disaster, was a far cry from any pizza worth its name. The canned sauce, watery and flavorless, ruined the otherwise decent crust.

Fortunately, the pesto pasta redeemed the meal somewhat. The well-balanced flavors and al dente pasta provided a satisfying contrast to the earlier disappointments. While Moara offers a breathtaking view and a pleasant atmosphere, the quality of the food and beverages falls short. It's a place where the scenery outshines...
