The Argan Trees langkawi — Restaurant in Kedah

Ordered the margherita pizza and prawn ravioli (their special). The prawn ravioli had a strong turmeric flavour (and as an Indian, I am used to lots of turmeric but not this) but the biggest scam was that the ravioli was a shrimp dumpling (you know those packets they sell in the market? Yeah, those), and not real ravioli. The plate was full of the supposed “ravioli” and 2-3 prawns and the sauce was some turmeric concoction - this tasted nothing like Italian food.

I was highly disappointed after taking a bite, and I even asked the (presumed) owner if it was a shrimp dumpling, and she got defensive and said “no, it is ravioli”.

We (me and my partner) left more than half the dish uneaten. While we were paying the bill, the owner asked if everything was ok, to which my partner mildly replied saying we did not enjoy the ravioli. Instead of asking what was wrong with the dish (as someone in the service industry knows to do) she attempted to shift the blame to us, saying it was one of her most “popular” items - which I think is a lie, as I see no mention of it in the google reviews.

I am fully expecting the owners to read my review and get back to me with a highly snarky reply saying I may not know “real ravioli”, lol.

Anyway, diners beware, and I highly recommend patronising Haroo next door instead of this place. They have good food and excellent service.

Edit: forgot to clarify that by prawn dumplings, I mean the frozen kind - the ones you can get from grocery stores (instant frozen dumplings) which makes this dish quite disingenuous. In addition, owner says the dish had “saffron” but I can safely say it didn’t. Or if it was there, it wasn’t strong enough to taste - the turmeric overpowered it. Either way we request and believe we deserve a refund of our “ravioli” prawn...

Not a pleasant experience at all. Within 10 minutes of being seated I noticed my forearms, which were resting on the arms of the chair, had turned blue & that blue paint from the chair was also on my clothes. I attracted the attention of the lady owner, her response- ‘what have you put on your skin’. When I told her that I had put mosquito repellant on earlier in the day but nothing else she just nodded & walked away, no apology, nothing. I was made to feel like it was my fault for using mosquito repellent. A younger waitress could see that I was not happy & moved us to another table with different chairs, she then brought me a couple of wet wipes to use & this got most of the blue paint off my skin but my cream top was ruined, the paint didn’t come out in the wash. What upset me most was the lack of apology or concern & the attitude of the owner, she clearly didn’t give a damn. Regardless of this we still ate there as we had already ordered. I had a tuna salad, I had expected fresh tuna but it was tinned, maybe my oversight. I also expected some form of salad dressing but there was none, instead a bottle of oil with no labels was just plonked on the table beside me. I have been travelling around SE Asia for several months now & I can honestly say this is the worst service I have received. Judging by some of the other poor reviews on Google I expect the owners to deflect any wrong doing by them. My advice, smile when serving customers & accept you don’t always get things right, no one is perfect, mistakes are made, it’s how you deal with these situations that makes...

If you’re into having a fulfilling lunch or dinner, I can assure you, you’ll thank me later.

What you see in my photos, is a must try! If you’re lucky, check for the infamous tomato soup if it’s being served for the day. ( Well i certainly raved about it) Too good, it goes down before a photo.

They have really good pizza & pasta and some seafood choices. You’ll feel like you’re in Europe!

Lastly, you can see how the owners take pride in their food, as they constantly ask their guests for feedback. You can see this charming lady Malou, who is there to make your time at Argan Trees a pleasant one.

Thank you for giving me food that feels like home, you are so generous with the servings and the price is fair for the taste, quality, portion, service and a beautifully Morrocan fusion decor to complement the experience.
