TOURISTS BEWARE
So we went to Sunba thinking that we are going to have a great time. We did have a great time, until one of the locals, for no apparent reason started smashing my head with a glass bottle. I was shocked, because we were all dancing together before and suddenly out of no where they started attacking us. I needed 7 stitches, there was blood everywhere and the whole night was ruined.
Upon researching a bit more, I found out that the locals actaully target people there and I have to say, compared to the previous attacks I was really lucky. We did have a weird feeling when we were going into the bar, because there were heaps of boys just following us into it. But they didnt attack until we were drunk enough.
Apparently locals purging tourists to death when they are drunk is kind of a sport here. The locals take huge pride on it and beat up a tourist everyday. Shame to say that these locals that are in the bar are uneducated about their own culture and people from malaysia because every other place in Langkawi was amazing, friendly and welcoming.
A couple of months ago a guy from england faced the same thing. His head was done in and he was in Coma for 4 days. He did suffer brain damage. Tourists get their head smashed in and taken to the hospital almost everyday in this trashy bar. The weird thing is that the bouncers kick the tourists out, maybe they are scared of the locals, maybe the owner of the bar doesnt even care about this. But if it keeps going like this someone will get killed and then maybe just maybe, the owner will get some sense then.
The sickening part of the whole thing is that the locals beat up drunk tourist people as a sport. As fun. As if it was amusing. Clearly this Bar is still in...
Read moreTonight we were out with a nice group in this club. At one point we asked the DJ if the volume could be turned up a bit. The DJ didn't respond. We normally asked for the 2nd time. The DJ suddenly shouts into his microphone to the security. We are suddenly thrown out. I keep trying to have a normal conversation with the security, but they don't want to listen. After talking for a long time, he lets me ask the DJ if we can go back in, because we hadn't done anything after all!? The DJ didn't respond. I let the DJ wait until he had remixed the song and had 2 seconds to respond. The DJ looked at me again and completely ignored me. We as a group were not allowed back in, simply because we asked if the volume could be turned up a bit. Not a nice club at all and a waste of our nice night as a group of friends! And no, it didn't go any differently. We simply asked the DJ if the music could be turned up a bit... Very strange to throw people out... We felt pure injustice this evening. At the end of the evening the security got very angry and agressive to us... We didnt...
Read more"On May 20, 2025, at around 2:30 a.m., I had a very negative experience at Sunba Retro Bar, Langkawi. The staff pressured me to buy drinks, and when I questioned this practice, I was removed by security. They took me to an isolated compartment between the bar’s entrance and the exit, where, instead of being escorted out, I was detained and physically assaulted, receiving blows to my face and body. I called the police, but they took no action, and locals told me such incidents are common. While I trust in divine justice to handle this, I share my experience to warn other visitors. I strongly recommend caution when visiting...
