From hero to zero
We used to love the food in this place and have visited twice in the past 1.5 years while in Langkawi. This time we tried to book for a larger group in advance via whatsapp and their website but nobody ever answered.
However today during the CNY when we brought our family (7 pax) the experience was so embarrassing and even offensive that I just can't imagine what an earth happened to them.
Our ordering process was easy and smooth: 5/7 of the party ordered burgers, one the recommended celebrational fish and one rendang + a salad as an appetizer. We ordered a bottle of pinot gris but received a sauvignon blanc instead (no appologies, no recognition to customer that they were providing something else than what was ordered). However the wine was nice and we were okay with it, so let this one go.
The burgers came with the salad and everyone enjoyed their food so far (except if my mother-in law who had a beetle under her burger and lost her appitite in the middle of her dinner). BUT then started the waiting for the two main course and after asking for them for two separate times (when the entire rest of the party had already finished eating and it had become a bit embarrassing already) I had to physically to go to the counter and ask for the ETA for the food (as it was already late and we didn't want to spend out whole night in there, but get kids to bed).
THIS is where it got very interesting as when I asked after about our food as we had waited like a half an hour, asian looking (blonded hair) older lady just snapped back at me "which table are you??" (..like a customer would know their table number) and continued "the big table??".
I immediately said, I don't feel it's fair that after all this waiting not a single soul has said sorry. Even one time. The lady had the nerve to shout at me that "you have ordered 20min ago! Not half an hour!" And just rushed to kitchen and left me stading there. The manner she was communicating was absolutely horrible and I couldn't even say a word to the male waitress after, I was just so astonished of the manner I had just been shouted at in a situation that THEY had screwed up.
I took a seat in my table and the older asian lady comes to the table and screams again "you have waited for 20 minutes!" (Which is NOT TRUE. There had been over 20 minutes when the whole other party had received their main course) so I asked "so do you really think thats an appropriate time to wait?" In which she snapped "well this is the way we do things around here!" and left.
No appologies, not a single ounce of caring about anything - just scolding the customer in front of the entire table of people.. I literally have nothing else to say that my fish which I FINALLY got was dry and over cooked and the beans around it were way too raw to eat so I had to leave them. The fish was also not seasoned properly but lets face it: On that point I just wanted to get away from the place, not even bothering to send the portion back as I felt so uneasy about the way I had just been scolded..
I have to say I'm speechless. Horrible experience and also what on earth happened to the food? This used to be my favourite and now I can never imagine to return. EMBARRASSING.
Edit//: STILL had uppset stomach FOUR days after...
Read moreFat Cupid at Pari-Pari Resort: A Balanced Review Plus Points: Pleasant Ambiance: Nestled within the Pari-Pari Resort, Fat Cupid offers a tranquil escape from the bustle of Pantai Tengah's main road. This can be a major perk for those seeking a relaxing dining experience. Nyonya Laksa: The Nyonya laksa is praised for its smooth and flavorful broth, complete with fresh green leaves and tofu pok. At RM31.90 (including service charge), it seems a bit high for this common Malaysian fare. Less Positive Points: Location: Finding Fat Cupid might be a challenge, requiring a left turn off the main road after Haroo Korean Restaurant. This can be inconvenient for those unfamiliar with the area. Nyonya Cuisine Consistency: While the laksa is well-received, the Rendang Tempe (ordered as Nangka jackfruit curry) taste is slightly off-putting. The concern lies in the possibility that it wasn't freshly prepared and may have been reheated from long cold storage. Portion Size: I suggest that for the price point, might find better value in smaller portion albeit more varieties of local favourites elsewhere. Overall: Fat Cupid offers a serene setting with a well-regarded Nyonya laksa. However, the location and inconsistency in some dishes raise questions. For a truly authentic Nyonya experience, simpler local stalls might be a...
Read moreCame here with family over for dinner on the weekend away in Langkawi. It wasn't a full house but take note that it does takes a while for the food to arrive (30+ minutes). Most of the family enjoyed the nyonya food selection (this is what they do best). For some unknown reason, it took exceptionally long for the kitchen to prepare the fish and chip meal (this was for the kids and should have been served first) - when it did arrive at last, the fish was dried, hard, not flaky and inedible (wrong choice of fish). The place was very poorly lit and very dim at night - please note that this is a very open air dining. Probably wrong timing on our part, but it was full on bugs and lizard feast. Find ourselves constantly swatting away all kind of flying insects - number got into the food. The staff do go to the extent of lighting citronella candles and spraying the light, but the amount of insects and bugs made the whole dining experience very unbearable. With the poor lighting, no doubt someone might accidentally ate some extra natural-crawling protein. In the end, we call to pack the rest of food and finish at the hotel. Unfortunately, a black beetle somehow made its way back to the hotel...
