Astor Bar — Restaurant in Kuala Lumpur

Despite the good reviews here, I must say the service I received was really bad. I came on a Thursday evening at 5pm, made a reservation beforehand. There’s a jazz performance at 830pm, so the whole place was fully booked and the place that we were seated was in the back where I sat facing the garbage bin of the bar.

So I politely asked the staff there to see if they could move us to a better seat as the place where we sat was dark, the LED table lamp was out of battery, and also because we know we won’t be staying for the performance.

But to my surprise, despite the whole entire bar was empty, they declined our request and asked us to open up the blinds if it was too dark and change the color of the dying table lamp.

Then came our truffle fries, VERY underwhelming, the drinks were nice, we had the specialty of the day- Cotton Club. We decided to just sip our drinks and leave because we couldn’t bear the quality of the service, the vibe. So we called for our bills and before we left, I still politely asked the staff (who was a lady) to take our photo and she asked me to ask someone else to do it. That was a major turn off for me. My first and last time coming here.

But on the bright side, the place is nice. The interior has a very chic and modern vibe to it. It’s a nice place to come in...

I have been coming to the Astor Bar here for over 4 years and I am very disappointed with deterioration of service at such a solid international brand. My company and home are located nearby and I used to bring a lot of business.

The service is incredibly slow even for something as simple as pouring wine. It takes 15-20 minutes for two glasses of wine even when the patron to staff ratio is 1:1. Last time, cooked food came from the kitchen well before drinks.

The menu has changed but the F&B orders consistently are out of stock and, when replacing the alcohol in cocktails, they increase the price of cocktails by 50% because the alcohol changed. Customers shouldn't bear the cost when the bar messes up.

There are no benefits for high-status Bonvoy members and they got rid of happy hour.

I have gone back a few times in the last two months for the staff to sort their issues but I don't think I will go again. Besides the nice staff and decor, it is a real struggle to find any value at this...

I like this bar in general. Beautiful elegant and the hidden charm of it is where Astrid's scene of the Crazy Rich Asian was filmed for her jewel hunting.

It's like a jewellery hunting venue, everything very elegant, chic and properly executed.

On the first page of the menu, there are about 9-10 menus boasting the movie, Crazy Rich Asian. But the top one, C1. Michelle is the martini dedicated to Michelle Yoeh. And it's martini twist. This bar is indeed her favourite according to the barman, Adam.

Michelle, Highly Recommended!! And Vesper, is stirred not shaken. It's very orange punchy and the whole glass is perfumed with Lilet!

Decent drinks and nice atmosphere. But one thing I take one star off from Atmosphere: Smoking!! Reeks of cigarettes.. but other than that great service and nice...
